What is your name and role within Youngr?
My name is Youngr and my role in Youngr is to be Youngr! X.
How did you start?
My dad forced me to have piano lessons when I was about 8/9ish… I used to hate it but he always used to say “you’ll thank me when your older!” Then I started getting into drums when I was about 11, then got into songwriting when I was 13/14 ish. Then started producing music on cubase when I was about 17, and played drums in loads and loads of bands. Then decided to jib everyone else off and go solo! YOLO.
Where are you based?
In London at the moment.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
Chords! I always start with tasty chords. Then the groove will come. I will probably have some sort of vocal hook or melody, I’ll lay that down, work on the track till it sounds delicious, then I’ll go back and finish the lyrics and melody.
What are you working on right now?
Currently working on a Nick Jonas remix, and a clean cut kid remix!
What is your gear setup?
Loads of gear! Yamaha stage custom kit. Roland A-800 pro midi keyboard. Roland JDxi. SPDSX. Sabina cymbals. MOTU interface. Fender p bass and fender telecaster.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
I genuinely don’t do much outside of music. Ha. My girlfriend tells me off about it. I would love to get back in to basket ball. I used to play loads when I was a chillun.
How would you describe your music genre?
Live dance music with lots of pop ingredients.
Do you know any music theory?
Yeah. Had to study it at school. Never wanted to dive fully into it and master it cause I didn’t want it to take away the natural feeling of music when it hslits your ear, and not being able to hear it for what it is… Not for the notes or chord movements or key it’s in!
What are your plans for the future?
To release shit loads of music.
How did you get into music?
My pops is a musician. So I went on the road with him when I was 6, so I’ve been obsessed all my life.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Phoenix’ new song. It’s awesome.
