The now Melbourne-based — previously Brisbane-based — soul/pop/folk singer-songwriter, Maja [phonetic spelling: my-ah], has just released her sophomore EP ‘Still Bleeding’ on August 4th, ahead of her tour across VIC, NSW, SA and QLDthroughout September.
Right before she begins her tour at the Wesley Anne in Melbourne on the 1st of September, she is releasing her charming music video [Watch here] for her soulful single ‘Wake Up And Find’ that was premiered at the beginning of July on Triple J’s ‘Roots N All’ and hit #3 on the Regional AMRAP charts.
With the help of director, Dean Swindell and two swing dancers — Elanor Adeney and Mason Feltoe — they have pieced together a simple yet elegant piece that portrays Maja’s “real-world”, sprightly personality alongside the songs upbeat arrangements, structure, instrumentation and general soul/pop-like feel.
Like all of Maja’s works, the video is imbued with her passions: day dreaming, picking petals off of flowers; dancing with a lover; or reading her favourites from the wonderful Oscar Wilde, ‘The Picture Of Dorian Gray’ that triggers other parallels to Maja’s fundamental meaning of the song – an awakening of ones-self to their own views and ideals that may not be right.
After Maja’s piece to camera, as if there was an awakening in thought (in time for the chorus) the tinsel drops to reveal the dancers behind her, in a stunning old (refurbished) hall, who then delve into their choreoography and finally include Maja herself.
