Melbourne emo alt rockers Vermont are releasing their first single of 2022, the angsty yet melancholic offering “Over Our Head“. The video is streaming today via Milky Milky Milky after it debuted on triple j Short.Fast.Loud last night.

The single was produced, mixed and mastered by Ocean Grove‘s Sam Bassal, who adds a bouncing confidence to the release. “Over Our Head” lyrically dives into toxic situations and the challenges faced when navigating the ups and downs and the struggles involved in overcoming them.

Emerging from the roller coaster of the previous two years, the pandemic carried the weight of uncertainty for most involved in the music and arts industry, and it most certainly took its toll on Vermont. Passions and commitment to what was once what the quartet loved most was tested in some very unique ways, and this new release provided a beacon of hope for the alt rock outfit.

It took a year in the making, and as a collective we knew that we wanted to strive for something more challenging and ultimately more superior than anything we’d attempted in the past.” says vocalist Josh Swanwick

“Sam Bassal was an undeniable influence behind our ultimate final product. The moment we met with Sam was the moment we knew this release would mark a very special time in Vermont’s existence. This song marks the beginning of a new era for Vermont; an era in which we will value the precious moments shared with our best mates and every second shared performing our creation.”

Hailing from Melbourne’s West is four-piece melodic alt rock outfit Vermont comprised of members Joshua Swanwick (Vocals), Jono Hnatejko (guitar), Nathan Borg (Bass) and Curtly Lyon (Drums). Vermont emerged with their own brand of alternative rock in 2017 when they debuted with “Lonely Mind” and shortly after followed it up with their heart-wrenching melodic anthem “Breathe” in 2018.

The quartet found a taste for catchy chorus hooks, angsty, powerful vocals and melodic lead lines and in 2020 they released their self-titled debut EP. Featuring popular tracks “Ruin” and “Solace”, the EP was well received, described as “perfectly mixing ferocity and vulnerability” by The Creative Issue with triple j play from multiple programs.

Vermont cut their teeth touring with a slew of genre heavy-hitters like Stuck Out, Stepson, Pridelands, Rumours, Reside, The Comfort and more and never fail to capture an aura of emotion and sentiment through their ability to story-tell.

Over Our Head” will be available and streaming on all platforms tomorrow, Friday April 29.
