What is your name and role within Valerian Swing?

I’m Francesco Giovanetti and I play baritone guitar and synthesizers.

Where are you currently based?

What programs and equipment did you use?

I play a Fender Telecaster Blacktop Baritone splitted in a Blackstar Artisan for the high frequencies and Gallien Kruger for the low. I use also a Nord Electro 3 and Ableton Live with some nice Plug-ins (Big up to U-He!).

What inspires your music?

Other music or movies melted with my disparate feelings.

How do you usually go about your songwriting?

We write riffs, melodies, chords, arpeggios, by ourself and then we mix together in reharsal room. If someone of us is not in Correggio we work sending each other ableton projects.

You’ve just ended a tight tour after NIGHTS release, something like 60gigs in 6 months all around Europe.  How did the new songs go down?

I bought a mini midi keyboard for 30 euro after 10 concerts in europe and I started writing down songs with the laptop and the kb for the rest of the tour.

How did you prepare for the tour?

I check if all my gear is working and I try to sleep as much as I can.

What was most challenging and enjoyable about the tour?

Staying next to the drummer in the van. He goes crazy every 2 hours. The most enjoyable? Every good show is always enjoyable.

Did you have a favourite show?  And if so, why?

Favourite show of who? If you mean mine, I cannot answer. Too many: Vega in Copenhagen, Arctangent in Bristol, Schokoladen in Berlin or To Lose La Track Party in Umbertide.

My last favourite show of someone else has been The Bug set in his party, Pressure, in Gretchen in Berlin last summer. It was massive. MASSIVE.

You’ve started composing new material with a lot of different influences and planning a new Euro tour in Spring!  What are these influences?

Yep, there will be another european tour in may! The influences are what we’re listening to now, so the next answer will answer to this question too.

Who are you listening to at the moment?

I’m listening to Rozzma, Errorsmith, Amnesia Scanner, Equiknoxx, Arca, Still.

A lot of latin, carribean and african music, old school Bachata, Cumbia. Salsa, Dancehall, Kuduro, Batida, Dub, Soca.

I appreciated a lot the Good Time Soundrack from Oneohtrix Point Never.

Habibi Funk, Principe Discos, Pan Records are only a few of my favourite labels.

Actually I think i listen to everything that’s not rock music. Lol.

When and where are you playing next?

We’ll play a the end of Jenuary in Carpi, really close to our town.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Brodetto Vastese and Sacher Torte. Too many favourite place to hangout: via del Pratello in Bologna/Italy, Weserstrasse in Neukoelln/Berlin, barrio San Juan Viejo in San Juan/Puerto Rico, Cafè Teatro Correggio/Italy.
