Out Friday July 16 on Technicolour via Inertia Music
“Though the New York-based artist doesn’t make a straightforward version
of the genre [techno] — maybe something closer to an echo of it —
her music channels raw tension with distinctly loose
and sparse productions.”
Resident Advisor
“A subtle, focused body shuffle.”
The FADER
UMFANG shares her new single “Where Is She“, taken from the forthcoming album Symbolic Use Of Light, which is out on Ninja Tune‘s Technicolour imprint on Friday June 16 via Inertia Music
Speaking to The FADER, who premiered the track online she explains that “the title refers to the feeling of being in a club and losing your friends for 15 minutes or maybe the whole night. I like that you can hide at the club and have your own experience if you want while still being among other humans.”
Previously sharing her analogue-based, amorphous polyrhythmic techno excursions via videogamemusic, 1080p, Phinery and Allergy Season, the New Yorker is a co-founder of Brooklyn’s colossal Discwoman crew and resident at Bossa Nova Civic Club’s Technofeminism monthly focusing on emerging talent and an affection for vinyl.
Recent highlight appearances include a seven hour open to close set at Hott Mass Pittsburgh, her debut at Berghain, an extended set at De School Amsterdam, Corsica Studios London, Kaiku Helsinki, Brutaz Warsaw, closing the first night of Sustain Release Year III, and an intimate set at Video Club in Bogotá.
