Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there? I live in sunny Perth but the band is in Melbourne. Perth music scene is growing fast thanks to more new venues and Andrew at Around The Sound. You recently moved from Melbourne back to Perth, how do the music scenes differ? I would say the music scene in Perth is a little more intimate. People are really excited to be there. Melbourne feels more commercial. How did you first start playing music? I started on Trumpet playing in orchestra and concert bands. I grew tired of classical and picked up guitar to write songs. What's been happening recently? I run a label called Doomity Records where I showcase similar artists on a playlist. Lincoln Mackinnon, The Little Lord Street Band and Dan Howls. I’ve also been coaching emerging artists and pitching to curators OS. Your new single 'The Sun' is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting for this track? The Sun started from an acoustic experiment but listening to it now I hear a bit of RHCP and Millencolin. Where and when did you record? We started tracking a few years back with Damien Young at Pony Music. The legendary Mark Kennedy joined us with percussion and Barney Loveland did the mastering. What programs/equipment did you use? The studio at Pony was well equipped and Mark came along with a bag of tricks in percussion. In ‘The Sun’ we patched in cool sounds similar to effects in Star Wars. Who produced this track and how was the experience? Myself and Mark Kennedy did the producing with tips from my favourite human Damien Young. It was a great vibe. Great professionals. Which artists did you work with and how did things unfold? Cory Jach, Barney Loveland and Dave Puopolo are full-time musicians so it made life super easy. How did you go about writing The Sun? The song started by bashing an acoustic at a friends house one night and the lyrics just fell from the sky. I couldn’t stop playing it for at least six months. I hear you have an album in the works, what can we expect? Definitely eager to put out an album next year. I feel it will hold the best of my songwriting so it’s important to get it right. There will be some big rock tracks surrounded by more relaxed Americana and roots-based tunes. Who are you listening to at the moment? Lately I’ve been playing the Doomity indie/ alt-country playlist on Spotify which holds pretty much all of my favourites. What do you like to do away from music? Outside of music, I’m a mad Essendon supporter in the AFL. I love the ocean and Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez. What's planned for the remainder of 2019? The rest of the year is filled in with shooting more music videos and a well needed holiday. Any secrets that you care to share? Secrets hmmm....don’t trust the government? Favourite food and place to hangout? I dig Japanese food and hanging out in the health food section. Official Website | Spotify | iTunes | Facebook | Soundcloud | Insta: @tobiaswonderdog
