Third Son

by the partae

What is your name and role within Third Son?

Joseph Thomas Price, and I am…the Third Son

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?

London, and it’s really inspiring.

You run Polymath label, how and why did Polymath come along?

It was born purely through the idea to offer themes to various artists to see what they could come up with. Almost like a commission. I don’t think I’d have a label if it wasn’t for that.

What do you find most challenging and rewarding with running a record label?

Challenge: Preparation. Reward: The release going out into the world

How do you go about deciding which artists you are going to work with?

Anyone who’s doing something musically special

You have a release Assimo (ft. Stereo MC’s) coming up on the  5th of Oct, please tell us about what or who influenced the sound:

I’ve been getting a lot more into the modular side of production, which in itself is really influential. In terms of style, I suppose you could say it’s a tip of the hat to Underworld.

Please describe the songwriting process for this track:

I think I came up with the synthy hook first, and built the track around that. Once the instrumental was finished I thought Stereo MC’s vox would fit perfectly. I’m lucky it came together as it did.

Where did you record/produce and who did you work with?

Production, mixing, and mastering from myself. Rob for Stereo wrote and recorded the vocal line

How do you prepare for your live shows?

With blood sweat and tears.

How did you first start playing music?

By having piano lessons forced upon me…which I’m grateful for now.

What do you have planned for the remainder of 2018 going into 2019?

A string of releases on various labels, including polymath. I’ll be touring in Australia and Asia also.

What do you like to do outside of music?

Eat Peanut-Butter.

Favourite food and place to hangout?

Peanut-Butter. The Peanut-Butter emporium.

Third Son ‘Assimo’ ft Stereo MC’s is released 5th October on Skint Records.
