What is your name and role within The Sigit?

My name is Farri Icksan Wibisana. I write song and compose music; play guitar, organ, electric piano, synth, strings, and sometimes do backing vocal.

How did you start?

I started to hang around with the boys through skateboarding. Used to skate back in senior high with Rekti and Adit; Acil was friends ‘em. Then as we went to college, I had a small bed room studio. In that studio, before we skate, Rekti and I used to discuss music, watch VCD of our fav bands, and compose music. I was still in my rap group when we decided to form the Sigit.

Where are you based?

Jakarta.

Please give an example of your music writing process?

I hear a note arrangement in my head, I translate it through guitar and piano or if no musical instrument laying around simply I just hum with my mouth. Then I record it with my mobile phone so I won’t forget it. To record it straight away is important. Lyric comes later.

What are you working on right now?

I’m about to release a collection from my fashion brand ‘Selekta Galaktika’. It is belong to me and my wife. It’s actually our project in any form of art, including synth based musical performance.

What is your gear setup?

My setup in live performance are guitar runs through pedalboard then through amp, I use mic-ing technique to capture my guitar sound; Synth, organ, strings run through different pedalboards then go to mixer.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

I like analog photography, fashion design, repairing old synth. Yes it does. They are interpolated and superimposed as a never ending poetic exploration through my inner self and my surrounding.

Yes I do.

What are your plans for the future?

Design and built a home for my family.

How did you get into music?

It starts in the family. My mother plays piano and my father has a lot of records collection. My older sister and younger brother play piano too. My first synth is a Casio PT-20, my father bought for me in the 80’s. I started to play nylon acoustic guitar in the junior high. I started to rap in my senior high years. I started to use DAW in my first years of college .I started to play electric guitar in my second years of college.

 What is your name and role within The Sigit?

Singer/songrwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, etc.

How did you start?

We started as a high school bands. other kids would play basket ball, and we play music.

Where are you based?

Bandung and Jakarta.

Please give an example of your music writing process?

Ideation of a music always comes from playing around with instruments. Then we jam through the rough idea. Lyrics are always written in parallel to the music. Usually fit in to the music based on the mood and feeling of the songs.

What are you working on right now?

Writing new songs. We try to write differently then what we have done.

What is your gear setup?

Gibson Sg 61, Tube Amps (Orange Rockerverb), overdrive and delay pedals, organ and synths.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

I run a record store, and sometimes produce and record other bands. Everyday I learn new stuff through this routine. Psychologically affect the way I write music.

How would you describe your music genre?

Layers of feelings in form of sounds.

Do you know any music theory?

Very basic. I can read music a bit but it’s not that crucial to my music creating process. I’m more into ethnological side of music.

What are your plans for the future?

Produce more music!

How did you get into music?

From my Mother and Uncle’s. They use to play me songs or make me mixtapes to accompany me when I play Lego or toys.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Goblin – Suspiria.

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

Brian Eno, David Bowie, Beatles.

DONAR ARMANDO EKANA

What is your name and role within The Sigit?

Hello, My Name is Donar Armando, but my family and mates call me Acil, I bang the drums for the Sigit or do the percussions whenever there’s a chance.

How did you start?

We were school mates and college mates,  we share the same passion for music, and Adit’s Father used to have this garage studio in his house that we can jam in.  and apparently in the old Bandung Days, some of our parents knew each other, we  didn’t know it until we played together, but it sort of enhance the chemistry of being a family.

Where are you based?

The three of us lives in Bandung right now. while Farri now resides in Jakarta.

Please give an example of your music writing process?

Rekti or Farri will give us the basic riffs and arrangement, then when we rehearse it, we kind of brainstorm the drums and baseline, or it can start from a basic drum beat and the rest will fill it through a jamming kind of process.

What are you working on right now?

We are working on our next album, and still working on some new sound explorations.

What is your gear setup?

I use a Tama 4 piece Starclassic Maple, accompanied with some mix of Zildjian K and Avedis cymbals.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

I am an architect/ interior designer.

How would you describe your music genre?

Basically it’s rock, 60s and 70s rock that we blend into our own distinctive sound.

Do you know any music theory?

I know the basic do re mi, single stroke, double, stroke, triplets, paradidle and that’s about it 🙂

What are your plans for the future?

Getting the new album done, get us on tour and do our best for Indonesian music scene.

How did you get into music?

it kind of got into my subconscious mind as in my childhood, my parents would wake us up on sunday morning with loud tunes of beatles, the beach boys, bee gees, etc.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Some Indian and Pakistani psychedelica, 60s and 70s funk, Indonesian 70s rock, also Rekti’s sideproject Mooner, and our current tour mates, Kelompok Penerbang Roket.

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

I would say just for influence: 

  1. the Creator of the universe
  2. Family
  3. Music (of course)
  4. Architecture
  5. Science Fiction & Military History. 

When are you playing next?

we have a couple of gigs during this Ramadhan, should be enjoyable.
