“Anxious and relatable, the Israeli indie rockers’ debut album The Void Repeats is a disquieting cataclysm of urgency and restlessness evoking the individual’s struggle for connection and meaning in the modern world.”Atwood Magazine
“one of the year’s most promising records” The 405 –“a brief insight into this morbid world” The Line of Best Fit – “wonderfully fuzzy” DORK – “a glorious arrangement of fuzzy guitars and driving percussion” Indie Shuffle
Tel-Aviv art-rock quartet Document self-release their debut album The Void Repeats: 10 fuzzy, anxious tunes exploring themes of dis-connectivity and digital addiction, the individual dealing with bureaucracy, corruption and the repeating void of the modern life, oscillating between moments of anxiety and outrage to moments of hope and ecstasy.
Opening with the spiky, yet wistful Alice and closing with the fuzzed-out garage euphoria of Intermission, The Void Repeats tackles every restless emotion in-between. The acerbic Habit brings out some pop-sensibilities, delivering meaty hooks throughout. Hustle throbs with nervous energy and Red Tape brings the slack; lackadaisical in the extreme, it marries the Strokes-esque razor wire guitars present throughout with quintessentially Pavement, Pixies and Sonic Youth vibes.
The album “expresses a sense of emptiness and confusion in the modern world.” explains vocalist Nir Ben Jacob, “The Void Repeats is a post punk album on Cipralex.”
Jacob, was born in Israel before moving to Guatemala then Florida as a child. In 2008, after finishing university, Nir moved back to Tel Aviv and started hanging out with his cousin and a couple of his friends. As bored 20-somethings, and the only people around who listened to 80’s post-punk or art punk like Wire, The Fall and ‘90s bands like Fugazi and Dinosaur Jr. they decided to play together and start a band.
Yaniv Brenner (Guitar), Amit David (Bass) and Amir Reich (Drums) complete the line-up.
The Void Repeats, is out now. The album was recorded at The Junk in Tel Aviv and was mixed by Bill Skibbe of Key Club Recording (The Black Keys, Protomartyr, Blonde Redhead and The Kills among others).
