Where are you currently based?
I’m based in Brisbane, QLD.

What’s been happening recently?
I’ve just come back from my summer break up north where my family lives. I’ve been studying my Masters in secondary education as of March 2022 and I just finished my 3rd semester. I’ll be finished in May this year! It has been challenging yet rewarding balancing my studies with making music all of last year. Now that I’ll be finished with my studies this year, I’m hoping to be way more attentive to my music.

Your latest single ‘Shots’ is out now, what or who influenced the sound and songwriting?
The approach I wanted to take with ‘Shots’ was an East Coast Hip Hop with a New York style production. Lola Brooke is a female rapper from Brooklyn NY and her energy and style encouraged me to exert a more masculine attitude with this track. It’s something I want to express more in my tracks this year.

How did you go about writing Shots?
Shots was first written in November 2021 when I was on the train to work. That was around the time I started recording music and therefore the lyrics to Shots natural came about in terms of working hard and chasing your dreams. I remember recording an Insta reel of the 2 verses I had written at the time and later deleting it as I wanted to use this track as recording for a single. I refined the lyrics late last year while I was in Melbourne visiting my sister. While I was in Melbourne I reached out to Daniel from Burncity Studio to book a recording session.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
I recorded Shots at Burncity Studio in Melbourne with Daniel Roberts whom I first worked with when I started making music. The beat was produced by a 19 year old producer Yaoan from Canada. After coming back to Brisbane I reached out to Gene Castillo from Rush Hour Studio. I’ve been working with Gene since the release of my EP in 2022. I trust Gene’s work as an engineer/producer and he’s exceptionally talented. Gene mixed and mastered Shots for me.

How did you approach the recording/production process?
As always, I make sure I go into the studio ready. I practice my verses and flow hundreds of times before recording. It usually takes me 1 hour for a recording session. When it comes to post production, I book a session with Gene in person where I discuss the mixing process of my track. I find it super helpful when I meet with Gene in person, as a team we’re both able to share our thoughts and ideas which allows us to identify what works and what doesn’t.

Please tell us about any new music on the way:
My plan for this year is to release singles every 2-3 months. I’m focusing on producing high quality tracks while working on reaching more listeners. 2023 will be my second year in making music, therefore I’m hoping to achieve new goals, one of them being to perform live.

Who are you listening to at the moment?
At the moment I’m listening to Lola Brooke and a lot of Snoh Aalegra, two very different genres of music. However, Metro Boomin’s recent album Heros and Villains has been on repeat.
What’s planned for 2023?
The plan is to finish my Masters, graduate, make money and make dope ass MUSIC! Ready to reach new heights!
