What is your name and role within Skepsis?
My name is Scott Jenkins and I make music and perform under the name Skepsis.
How did you start?
I started producing during music lessons at school when I was about 15, and I also started djing around the same time at this extra-curricular class. I remember I loved making music from the start and the teacher even told me to slow down at one point in the lessons!
Where are you based?
I am based in South London, although I have just finished 3 years of university in Canterbury.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
It really varies from track to track. A lot of the time I’ll start with drums as I am a grade 4 drummer, and usually with the drop unless I have an intro idea.
What are you working on right now?
A few different things. Always have at least 5 projects on the go! Mainly I am planning for an EP to release at the end of this year.
What is your gear setup?
Nothing too fancy – Yamaha HS8 monitors, Scarlett 2i2 interface, MIDI keyboard, couple other smaller bits.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
As I said I’ve just finished university, which was very hard to balance with the music side of things. Now I have a lot more time to do what I love though which is great!
How would you describe your music genre?
Heavy! Haha. It’s hard to describe exactly what it is, a lot of people call it bassline, although I wouldn’t strictly label what I make as that. I just make what I like!
Do you know any music theory?
A little, but not much. I had piano lessons when I was younger but quit as I didn’t enjoy it. I know which note patterns sound good though so maybe I have my own music theory style now.
What are your plans for the future?
Just to keep doing what I’m doing and keep working away! Really happy with how this year has gone so far and hoping current events continue.
How did you get into music?
I’ve always been into electronic music, from first hearing Pendulum and the Prodigy. I’ll always remember the first time I heard Tarantula – it changed my life haha.
What are you listening to at the moment?
I mostly listen to rap and grime outside of the club / production environment. J Hus and Mo Stack are killing it at the moment in the UK.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
Pendulum, Prodigy, My Nu Leng, Netsky, Chris Lorenzo
