Skegss have today announced final additional tour dates for their ‘Australian Tour ‘19’ this June/July. Due to overwhelming demand the band have added four brand new dates listed below. Presale tickets are available now (for fans signed up to the bands mailing list) until 8am Wednesday March 6thbefore they are open to the general public at 9am AEDT Wednesday March 6th. After a triumphant showing in this year’s triple j Hottest 100 and a stint touring the country nationally this summer with Laneway Festival, Skegss are hitting the road once more in support of their debut ARIA #2 album My Own Mess and its new single and video Road Trip. With previous songs Up In The Clouds (#11), Smogged Out (#71), Stop (#173) and album title track My Own Mess (#193) all appearing in the top 200 tracks voted by triple j listeners, it’s time for a fifth serving with the next track sung by Toby Cregan, offering some colourful reflection about a different kind of trip. Directed by Kai Neville on rustic old gear, Road Trip’s official video is a fitting visual accompaniment to one of My Own Mess’ more subdued moments.   "I jumped in the van with good pals Skegss for two days while they were on tour. In theme with Toby’s lyrics I felt 16mm would fit the track. Shot mostly handheld on my Bolex h16. It’s an older camera, you can barely see through the viewfinder. It’s small and kinda looks cool so was perfect to run around back stage and throw in front of torched fans. Not a very invasive camera rig so helps keep a candid shooting approach. Love how the 16mm rushes look and the final cut came out.”  - Kai Neville Of the upcoming tour, the band offer: "We are really excited to come and play our dream venues around Australia. Dropping our debut album last year My Own Mess everything has been crazy. We are taking our friends Aaron Gocs, Totty and Mini Skirt on the road. See yas there!”

Skegss

by the partae October 25, 2018
written by the partae
What is your name and role within Skegss?

My Name is Toby I play the bass and sing a few songs.

Where are you currently based and what is the music scene like there?
I live in a small town just outside of Byron Bay, there is a lot of musicians and creative people around here.

A good karaoke night on Friday at the pub also a good jam session on Sunday’s.  The music scene in Byron is really good at the moment too with bands like Mini Skirt doing gigo’s at the pub.

When and How did Skegss start?
In 2014 Benny and Jon had been playing for about a year as a 2 piece around here and then I joined the band with another mate.  Benny and I were living together for a few years before we started playing together….. I kind of just got up with them when they were playing at the Northern.
How do you usually go about writing music?
I write song really fast and on impulse, I just make a melody and try to kind of freestyle a verse. I don’t usually spend more than 20 minutes on a song.  Benny goes back to his and works on them for years sometimes, thats probably why I like his more lol.
What or who influences your sound?

I don’t know……  I like good melodies and stories.

How did you first start playing music?
I first got a drum kit and learnt how to play that so I could start a band straight away.  The first song we made up was called The Goon Room Song, the goon room is the room where we jammed. Very creative haha.
Your rippin debut album ‘My Own Mess’ is out now!! Where and when did you record?
We recorded it at the grove studios at the start of the year.
Favourite track from the album and why?
Up in the clouds. When Ben showed me that song I don’t think I felt the same feeling about a song since I heard him play LSD for the first time.
Your on the last legs of your Aussie tour and then heading over to Europe, how have the shows been so far?
Really good.
What do you find most challenging and rewarding when touring?
The most rewarding thing is being able to put something on and its makes so many people happy.  The most taxing thing is being drained mentally from feeling such crazy emotions all within a hour.
What do you like to do outside of music?
Gardening, Skateboarding, Surfing and reading.
What do the Skegss have planned for 2019?
We don’t know yet.  We have the laneway tour and hopefully a few more tours?
Favourite food and place to hangout?

The Bahn Mi joint in Byron that is near the RSL.

SKEGSS RELEASE NEW SINGLE UP IN THE CLOUDS & ANNOUNCE NATIONAL TOUR ON THE EVE OF GROOVIN’ THE MOO FESTIVAL DATES

by the partae April 24, 2018
written by the partae

Signalling the beginning of something big, today SKEGSS have unleashed their brand new track Up In The Clouds, ahead of their Groovin’ The Moo dates which kick off this Friday in Wayville, SA.

Up In The Clouds is the first proper taste of new material since SKEGSS’ April 2017 EP Holiday Food and is supported by a new video for the song which you can view here.

The band says:

“The song’s about being unsure but realising it’s OK to have uncertainty and it’s regular. Some things will always be left uncertain. As soon as we figured that out we made a song about it.”

Taking the song out nationally, Up In The Clouds will further the bands live reputation, of which they have made a name for themselves; with energetic live performances garnering praise from The Music for their “infectious” on-stage chemistry and Moshcam who asserted they “seem to have some sort of hypnotic effect over their fans.”

“It’s been about a year since we have gotten to do a major city tour with new music so we are looking forward to getting on the road for The Up In The Clouds Tour”,says Benny Reed.

SKEGSS are Ben Reed (vocals, guitar), Toby Cregan (bass, vocals) and Jonny Lani (drums), three prolific performers who have charmed listeners with their warm Garage-Punk sound, selling out shows all across the country. The band has just wrapped a sold out No Future regional tour which saw them sell-out across the country. During the summer of 2018, the band reissued their Holiday Food EP on ultra-limited blue vinyl, for a handful of indie stores only and featured a brand new, vinyl-only track. Just like their previous tour dates, this EP sold out immediately. Capping off summer 2018 was of course the inclusion of Got On My Skateboard at #39 on triple j’s Hottest 100.

With an album set to be released this year through Ratbag Records, a UK tour which includes appearances at The Great Escape and Dot to Dot festivals, a single tour in June and an upcoming Splendour in the Grass set – this is just the beginning of a very crazy year for SKEGSS.

SKEGSS ANNOUNCE THE NO FUTURE TOURAND REVEAL THE SKEGSS HOME VIDEO FEATURING FOOTAGE FROM PREVIOUS UK, EURO AND AUS TOURS

SKEGSS are stoked to announce they are taking their EP Holiday Food on the road to regional Australia this coming December and January.  Named the No Future tour; it comes fresh off the back of the Holiday Food tour which saw the trio sell out shows in all major cities in Australia as well as the highly successful Spaghetti Fest. Now the boys are back and will be hitting 15 regional stops with special guests Crocodylus and Totty. Tickets are on sale from 10am today – head towww.skegss.com/tours for more info.

SKEGSS – Ben Reed, Toby Cregan and Jonny Lani – have been described as a band with ‘infectious on stage chemistry’ (The Music). They have charmed listeners with their warm surf-punk – seeing high rotation on Triple J with hits like Spring Has Sprung. The follow up single from the EP, Got On My Skateboard had a successful video with YouTube’s Aaron ‘Gocsy’ Gocs in a clip that reflected a nostalgic vision of youth, 90s fashion and bowl cuts.

With high energy performances that ‘seem to have some sort of hypnotic effect over their fans’ (Moshcam), SKEGSS go fast and loud with a show that will surprise every time. Following their previous sold out Australian and UK tour plus a steam of packed European shows this regional tour will showcase their presence as an unstoppable force in the Australian music scene. For a glimpse into life on the road with Skeggs, you can watch their home video footage from the UK, Euro and Aus tours here.
