Where are you currently based?
Gold Coast, Australia
How did you first start playing music?
I started learning piano when I was around 9 and picked up the guitar when I was 12 and learned how to play from YouTube videos. The first time I ever sang was when I was 16, I auditioned for the school musical and played Peter Pan which was my debut to the stage.
What’s been happening recently?
Lots. I haven’t been able to breathe haha and I love it. I perform 5-6 gigs a week around the Gold Coast, currently recording my debut album and started writing my second, working with a company to develop a headline show to sell to cruise ships around the world, and in very early stages of scripting a budget short film/movie to accompany the album release.
Your latest single ‘Ghost‘ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
Ghost was the first track that clicked for me in terms of my new sound, which is why it’s the first single off the album. It really brings the fun cheeky side of me and it brings people a lot of joy when I perform it because it is just that. The songwriting is about ‘the chase’ which comes before the deep meaningful relationship, and is essentially how I’ve structure the album called ‘Telepathy’ which is based on the theme of connection. The sound is heavily influenced by the minimal production techniques of Lauv and the slick gritty sounds of Arctic Monkeys.
How did you go about writing Ghost?
I sat down with co-writer Hein Cooper on a zoom call during lockdowns in covid and this is the first song we wrote. We’ve since then written about 10 more together.
What does this single mean to you?
Hein’s experience and ability to dig deep into what defines me as an artist really unlocked something for me in having clarity in my sound and brand. This song was the first step to unlocking this.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
I flew down to Sydney and took a three hour bus trip south to Mollymook where myself, Hein and his mate Jason Norris produced the track. I then polished the song back home in the Gold Coast with Jared Adlam who I’ve been working with for years. Paul Blakey then mastered the track for me.
How did you approach the recording process?
Minimal and fun. We went in and had fun, which really shows in the production of the track.
Please tell us about your upcoming EP:
My album! It’s really special to me of course, I’m really closed off and don’t let a lot of people in. This album is very deep, very cheeky, very fun and I think very beautiful. It has a lot of flavours. There’s 11 tracks on the album… here’s something I wrote about it:
Telepathy tells a story of connection. Beginning with the craving desire for beauty and intimacy, the album flows through stages desire and love, constantly seeking for something bigger than ourselves. Through unique sonic texture achieved through electronic production mixed with more traditional organic instruments, the album picks apart the human psyche looking inwards in a vulnerable and undeniably authentic way. The project rises and recedes in an oceanic sense, finally resonating at a higher frequency uncovering love in its purest form through the title track Telepathy.
What can we expect from this EP?
Bangers
Who are you listening to at the moment?
My housemates talking while I’m trying to write this. Joking. My fav artists at the moment are The Eagles (particularly Hell freezes over live version), Boo Seeka, PNAU, and Harry Styles (who isn’t)
What’s planned for 2023?
Headlining cruise ships theatres, album release, a movie, lots of experiences and songwriting material.
Favourite food and place to hangout?
Sea dog in the park for a coffee, been going to Currumbin Cascades too to relax. My fav food is my mum’s home made ravioli but I only get that twice a year because my family live 17 hours drive away!
