What is your name and role within the band?
My name is Paigey Cakey and I’m a rapper / actress from East London, Hackney.
How did you start?
I used to make music in my spare time as a hobby. I would write songs and show them to my mum. In school I went on to study music and acting as a GCSE. It was here where I really developed a passion for music. I then went on to release the track I had made for my school exam on YouTube. It got over 10k views and a great reaction on my Facebook page. This is where my career took off.
Where are you based?
I am based in East London, Hackney.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
I like to write In the studio whilst the producers create the beat. I find inspiration through things I see on a everyday basic or how I feel.
What are you working on right now?
I’m working on loads of new music for this year. I’ve created a few dope tracks for the summer which I’ll be releasing from June onwards. I’ve got enough tracks to drop a project towards the ending of the year too.
What is your gear setup?
I have a small studio set up in my bedroom which I use to lay ideas. My setup is a MacBook, soundcard mixer, speaker and mic.
When I record in the bigger studios everything is there.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
When I’m not making music I love to visit friends, online shop or go out and do something fun like trampolining or roller skating. I also act so if I get an acting job in a film or series I have to prioritise my time between music and acting.
How would you describe your music genre?
I would describe my music as being very fun and bouncy. It’s almost like a groovy hip-hop sound. I am very versatile and have songs in all different genres ranging from reggae to house.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to keep making music, make an album, do a European tour and just work my way up to the top.
What are you listening to at the moment?
I’m listening to drakes album, ‘More Life’ and a lot of UK music such a J Hus, Mostack and Yxng Bane.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
My top 5 influences and icons are Missy Elliott, Ms Dynamite, Teedra Moses, So Solid Crew & Tupac.
When are you playing next?
