What happens when two bass-loving production maestros join forces? A track that is, quite simply, out of this world. NGHTMRE and Dillon Francis teamed up for the appropriately titled, “Another Dimension.” It delivers heavy percussion and serrating mechanical synths coupled with the vocal quip “Pay close attention, I’ll take the brain to another dimension,” which is quite literally what happens when the wobbling drops take over. NGHTMRE is back on Mad Decent with a heavy-hitting, multifaceted release titled “No Coming Down” featuring the unique talents of Alex Wiley and Sky Montique. “No Coming Down” wraps up three very different genres of music and fuses them as only NGHTMRE could; the backdrop contains the producer’s melodies and basslines, complete with a sax sample and rolling, cinematic synths that complement Wiley‘s fast-paced, rhythmic verses. Wiley is one of rap’s most promising talents, having been deemed an artist to watch by The Huffington Post and named Chicago‘s “best kept secret” by Revolt TV. The addition of Sky Montique‘s distinctive voice adds a bluesy, nu-jazz element that sets “No Coming Down” apart from the rest of the electronic-rap hybrids out there. With Halloween quickly approaching, it is certainly the season for all things spooky in the music world and beyond. While NGHTMRE generally holds down an ominous aesthetic with his melodic-driven bass music, his newest release “The Killer” features his longtime friends and past roommates, Bret James & RNSOM, who take this track to the next level. The 3 artists co-produced the track together before Bret James blessed the instrumental with his menacing lyrics and haunting vocals, pleading “I’m not the killer,” in such an anguished fashion that we’re almost convinced. “The Killer” quickly gears up with sinister basslines and goosebump-inducing, mechanical synths reminiscent of chainsaws. Like its namesake, this is one track that simply seems made for the apex of a horror movie. Given that NGHTMRE is in the midst of his “NGHTMRE Before Xmas” tour and will be making appearances at spooky fests this month – Voodoo, Escape, and Something Wicked, “The Killer” is bound to be in frequent circulation.
