What is your name and role within the band?
Vir McCoy, I run the computer and loops as well as play a multitude of stringed instruments.
How did you start?
We were part of a larger group called Hamsa Lila (8 People) but got into electronic music, so the drummer and I decided to start a project that was more live electronica.
Where are you based?
Bay Area California.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
Its very improvisational, but the music we do write is very much a collaborative effort. We often jam and pull out good ideas.
What are you working on right now?
Recording our first studio album.
What is your gear setup?
Its quite complex, but basically using ableton live to make loops from guitar, bass and ethnic instruments, trigger clips and beats, then have a live drummer synced to a click, Then another member plays the Moog Voyager, and the the other member plays a variety of shamanic and ethnic instruments.
How would you describe your music genre?
We call it “A shamanic global oddessy” Its kind of like Pink Floyd goes to a shamanic ceremony and decides do electronic dance music.
Do you know any music theory?
I do, but others don’t.
How did you get into music?
My father was a musician, so I basically came out the womb hearing music. I started on drums and later switched to guitar and bass. Then I got into ethnic instruments.
What are you listening to at the moment?
At the moment I have been listening to a lot of top 40, Im always interested in new music, be it pop or trap.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
Well I have been influenced by so many, but my favorites are Jimi Hendrix, Geezer Butler (bass) from Black Sabbath, Hassan Harmon (Moroccan Sintir player), Hip Hop, and Lots of Electronic music and Donovan.
When are you playing next?
We are playing at the Beloved Festival and the Oregon Eclipse Festivals.
