HOCKEY DAD SELL OUT NATIONAL ALBUM TOUR; ANNOUNCE EXTRA SHOWS
Presented by triple j; Tickets on sale now
Listen to New Single ‘I Wanna Be Everybody’
After selling out their national album tour, and extra dates in Brisbane in Melbourne all within 24 hours, Hockey Dad have announced they’ll be adding further dates to each stop, including all ages and under 18s shows. The band also dropped their latest single ‘I Wanna Be Everybody’, premiering on Good Nights with triple j, the latest taste of anticipated second album Blend Inn, out Friday, February 9 on Farmer & The Owl via Inertia Music. Tickets are available now via hockeydadband.com.
Visiting capital cities this March, with Boat Show and Dear Seattle in tow, the 14 date, triple j presented tour will be the first time fans of all ages get to experience Blend Inn live. The band will be playing to full houses across Australia, including twice at The Metro Theatre in Sydney, four shows each in Melbourne’s The Corner Hotel and The Woolly Mammoth in Brisbane, plus two shows in each The Gov in Adelaide and Badlands in Perth.
‘I Wanna Be Everybody’ emerges as the infectious and surprisingly vulnerable pop-rock song that Summer was missing. On the track, Hockey Dad navigate themes of social anxiety amid the charged riffs, ever-confident vocals and punk-styled drums for which they’ve become synonymous. The single joins lead track and instant favourite ‘Homely Feeling’ on Blend Inn, and is set to have band rooms across the country united in a chorus of “I wanna be everybody, everybody / I just can’t be everybody, everybody”.
Where their 2016 debut album Boronia celebrated the long days of summers past and the sublime naivety of youth, Blend Inn is Zach Stephenson and Billy Fleming coming to us with more perspective after relentless touring took them far from the streets and waves of their hometown of Windang, NSW. 2017 saw them embark on sold-out national and regional tours, support Grinspoon for 25 dates, tour alongside Dune Rats and Wavves, and secure slots at Falls Festival Lorne and Splendour In The Grass. They toured New Zealand, Europe, the UK and most recently the US and Canada, showcasing at SXSW, headlining shows, and playing in iconic sold-out rooms in support of The Frights such as Bowery Ballroom in New York, Lincoln Hall in Chicago and The Observatory in LA. Totalling an impressive 107 performances across 2017, they wrapped up with a final headline show to a sold-out, 250 strong crowd at LA’s Bootleg Theatre.
Now, the two have returned to their piece of paradise which inspired the lyrics of ‘Homely Feeling’, recharged and ready to showcase the new material via their even-sharper live presence, before crossing the pond again in May for a headline show at The Lexington in London.
‘I Wanna Be Everybody’ is available on all platforms now. Blend Inn is available for pre-order now on all formats including limited edition coloured vinyl..

HOCKEY DAD ANNOUNCE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED SECOND ALBUM BLEND INN
Out February 9, 2018 on Farmer & The Owl via Inertia Music
Watch new video for lead single “Homely Feeling” now
Hockey Dad announce details of their highly-anticipated second album entitled Blend Inn, out February 9, 2018 on Farmer & The Owl via Inertia Music. The news follows the launch of lead single “Homely Feeling”, spun first by Richard Kingsmill on triple j and has dominating the airwaves ever since. The duo have now backed the single up with a music video which sees them assemble a ramshackle gang of mates and transform their backyard pool into a skate bowl.
Blend Inn is the follow up to Hockey Dad’s critically acclaimed 2016 debut Boronia. Where Boronia celebrated the long days of summers past and the sublime naivety of youth, Blend Inn is Zach Stephenson and Billy Fleming coming to us with more perspective after relentless touring took them far from the streets and waves of their hometown of Windang, NSW. The album title emerges as a response to that lived experience “Blend Inn is the part of your head that you want to go to when you’re overseas and wishing you were back home, it’s within” says Fleming “We’re always just trying to be comfortable and semi blending in, so it’s the name we gave to that place you zone out to.”
Landing in Seattle, the recording of Blend Inn began with renowned audio engineer and producer John Goodmanson (Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, Cloud Nothings, Death Cab for Cutie) at Robert Lang Studios. The studios, supposedly haunted, echo with their iconic past – housing many of rock’s legends over its time including Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, and most notably, Nirvana, who recorded their last song there. The mic used in Kurt Cobain’s final studio recording still hanging in tribute. Here, Hockey Dad found a home away from home – immortalising their time in the album artwork, which depicts the house in a film photo captured by Fleming.
The album is Hockey Dad’s boldest output to date, a natural progression for the two as they face the tribulations of young adulthood, a theme reflected across the record. “Homely Feeling” emerges as an ode to their roots; “In a way the lyrics of this song reflect on trying to find that “Homely” feeling all the time, for when you’re surrounded by heaps of people and kinda freaking out and just wanna be back home.”
“I Wanna Be Everybody” pines for the feeling of normality – speaking of social anxiety, “Join The Club” relays the struggle for self-identity in the face of societal expectation, whilst lighter moments like “Sweet Release” see the duo experiment , showcasing Fleming on vocals for the first time.
The past 18 months have seen the duo embark on sold out national and regional tours, perform at Falls Festival Lorne and on the main stage at Splendour In The Grass, plus tour extensively across the US, Canada, New Zealand, Europe, the UK. Returning home, they hit the road as main support on a 25+ date tour with iconic Aussie rock band Grinspoon, and most recently, wrapped up a run with Dune Rats and Wavves playing in some of the country’s biggest rooms.
The growth that Hockey Dad have experienced over this period has been no accident. The fast-paced, punk style of Billy’s drums combines with Zach’s jangly guitar, anthemic choruses and ever confident vocals to give life to their unmistakable and infectious brand of rock-pop. The true heart of Hockey Dad’s execution and synchronicity, however, exists in their long standing, personal friendship – having first met as kids, growing up together two doors apart.
Blend Inn is available for pre-order now on all formats including limited edition coloured vinyl.

HOCKEY DAD RETURNS WITH NEW SINGLE “HOMELY FEELING”
NEW ALBUM BLEND INN COMING IN 2018 ON KANINE RECORDS ON TOUR IN CANADA & THE U.S. WITH THE FRIGHTS
LISTEN / SHARE: “HOMELY FEELING”
Hockey Dad, the Australian surf-rock duo of lifelong best friends Zach Stephenson and Billy Fleming, returned today with their infectious new single “Homely Feeling,” their first new music since their 2016 debut album Boronia. The band wrote the track about struggling to stay sane while on the road: “We’re always comfortable when we’re back home. This one’s for when you’re surrounded by heaps of people and kinda freaking out. Whenever you’re heaps off it and just wanna be back home.”
Consequence of Sound premiered “Homely Feeling” today, saying the track is “…a forceful, paranoid cut with a jagged chorus. The song’s refrain, especially, sounds plucked straight out of early ’90s Olympia, which makes sense considering Blend Inn was recorded at the same spot where Nirvana recorded their last song.”
“Homely Feeling” is available now on Spotify, iTunes, and Apple Music. The song will appear on Hockey Dad’s second album Blend Inn, due out in 2018 on Kanine Records. Watch this space for more details.
Hockey Dad kicks off a North American tour next week, including headlining dates and an opening slot with The Frights.

Past praise for Hockey Dad:
“Messy and fun, the Australian duo’s pop-punk bursts with chunky guitars and big riffs as they collide with yowling vocals and firecracker drumming. It’s the perfect sun-streaked soundtrack for skinned-knee skate videos and beach bonfires at dusk; for staying out late and sleeping in later, only to do it all over again the next day.” – NPR
“The youthful exuberance of Hockey Dad is rowdy, immature and boisterous, all of which blend together in an even formula that perfectly soundtracks balmy summer debauchery.” – Paste
“Their music evokes a curious feeling which can be described as an anti-nostalgia of sorts, rejecting a longing for the past and instead celebrating youth as it is.” – Nylon
“Embodies surf-rock so hard that listening to them or even just looking at them might make you think you’re on a beach, skating down the boardwalk, trying not to fall off the edge.” – Noisey
More on Hockey Dad:
Best mates first, bandmates second – the heart of Hockey Dad has always existed in the friendship between duo Zach Stephenson and Billy Fleming, who first met in early childhood, growing up two doors apart in the unassuming, laid back Australian coastal town of Windang, New South Wales. The foundations for the band began in early 2013, when an underage Fleming and Stephenson would sneak into their local live music haunt to catch their favorite bands. Eventually they were granted regular slots playing to an ever-growing crew of enthusiastic friends turned fans and released their Dreamin‘ EP on local Wollongong indie label Farmer & The Owl in 2014.
Now, the duo are on the verge of releasing their highly-anticipated second album Blend Inn, the follow up to 2016’s debut Boronia. Where Boronia celebrated the long days of summers past, of mates, the ocean and the sublime naivety of youth, Blend Inn is Fleming and Stephenson coming to us with more perspective following a year of relentless touring which took them far from the streets and waves of their hometown.
The growth that Hockey Dad have experienced over the past 18 months has been no accident. The fast-paced, punk style of Billy’s drums is executed in perfect synchronicity with Zach’s jangly guitar, anthemic choruses and ever confident vocals to give life to their unmistakable and infectious brand of rock-pop. After Boronia‘s release, the duo embarked on sold out tours across Australia and toured extensively through North America, including showcases at SXSW and a Canadian tour with Dune Rats. 2017 took them to the UK, Europe, and further across Australia, including more shows alongside Dune Rats and Wavves in some of the country’s biggest venues – a world away from the 70 cap band room where Hockey Dad first cut their teeth.
Landing in Seattle, the recording of Blend Inn began with renowned audio engineer and producer John Goodmanson (Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney, Cloud Nothings) at Robert Lang Studios. The studios, supposedly haunted, echo with their iconic past, having housed many of rock’s legends over its time, including the Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Death Cab For Cutie, Alice In Chains, and most notably, Nirvana, who recorded their last song there – the mic used in Kurt Cobain’s final studio track still hangs in tribute. Here, Hockey Dad found a home away from home.
Where Boronia spoke of a physical place, named for home, Blend Inn refers to somewhere more introspective. “Blend Inn is the part of your head that you want to go to when you’re overseas and wishing you were back home, it’s within,” says Fleming. “We’re always just trying to be comfortable and semi blending in, so it’s the name we gave to that place you zone out to.” The album is Hockey Dad’s boldest output to date, a natural progression for Fleming and Stephenson as they face the tribulations of young adulthood, a theme reflected across the record.
Blend Inn holds onto the charm and energy of youth which won hearts originally – the playfulness, the edge, that quintessential Hockey Dad surf rock sound – but it comes to us from two people with an expanded mindset. “We’re still kids,” reflects Fleming. “But we’re just a little bit more… experienced.”

HOCKEY DAD RELEASE NEW SINGLE, “HOMELY FEELING”
Out Now on Farmer & The Owl via Inertia Music
Hockey Dad return with a new single, “Homely Feeling“, unwavering in the charm and energy which drew fans to the duo originally, yet driving forward as their boldest output to date. Speaking to triple j‘s Richard Kingsmill on his 2017 program, Zach Stephenson and Billy Flemingrevealed that their new album, titled Blend Inn, is set for release early 2018.
“Homely Feeling” was recorded in Seattle earlier in the year with John Goodmanson (Cloud Nothings, Bikini Kill, Sleater Kinney, Death Cab for Cutie) and is out now on Farmer & The Owl via Inertia Music.
Following the success of their debut album Boronia in late 2016, Hockey Dad’s relentless touring schedule has taken them far from their coastal hometown of Windang, NSW, to every pocket of Australia and around the world. “Homely Feeling” is the sonic culmination of that lived experience, and emerges as an ode to their roots.
“In a way the lyrics of this song reflect on trying to find that ‘homely’ feeling all the time, and we’re always comfortable when we’re back home.” Explains Zach, “This ones for when you’re surrounded by heaps of people and kinda freaking out. Whenever you’re heaps off it and just wanna be back home.”

Where are you currently touring, and whats it’s like to get out and about touring to satellite/regional based shows (Australia + elsewhere?)
We just finished a small tour of Europe and a tour of a few states in the US and a Canadian tour with Dune Rats. We managed to squeeze in some recording in there as well.
When and why did you start playing?
Cause we were bored at home and had nothing else to do so we started playing.
What was the first tune(s) you learned?
The Living End’s entire discography.
Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?
Blokes doing 3 hour cover sets from an iPad down at the local RSL. They deal with the most hostile rowdy crowds around.
Have you ever been to or performed in Barooga or Albury before?, also is anything you look forward to checking out whilst in the area?
We’ve never played there before but we are looking forward to it. Hopefully someone can show us some cool stuff to do whilst we are there.

What has been the coolest venue you performed at in Oz & Abroad?
Coolest venue in Aus is Rad bar in Wollongong. We also played on a boat in holland which was sweet!
Which musicians in the scene have you learnt the most from?
Bad//Dreems taught us how to drink like champions!
Were you influenced by old records, tapes & Cd’s? Which ones?
Old Australian punk and rock definitely influenced us. As well as 60’s garage surf rock.
Places lived, And if they’ve had any influence on your song writing
We’ve only ever lived at home. It’s possible it could influence our writing but I think that stuff comes second after what you’re listening to!
Where have you toured internationally in the past?
We’ve toured around Europe and North America.
Who’s a hot artist to look out for in your local Wollongong/Sydney scene?
Archy Punker is a rad Wollongong band you should definitely check out.
And what are the plans for the future? Ie: recording, touring abroad, joint projects?
Lots of touring and more records!
