Giraffage
Too Real

San Francisco-based producer Giraffage(Charlie Yin), whose dreamy synth-pop productions have appointed him as one of electronic music’s most refreshing and innovative producers among the landscape, takes a sonic leap forward with his new record Too Real. The album, taking sonic and stylistic cues from disperatct acts like Soichi Terada or Radiohead, “is a return to my musical interests and roots.”
“As a still-young artist exploring new intersections of
timbre and meaning, Yin deserves praise for his
creativity, and optimism about his future.

Floating Points
Ratio

In 2015 Sam Shepherd – aka Floating Points – released his break out, critically acclaimed debut Elaenia. Earlier this year he followed up the album with Reflections – Mojave Desert, a short film and soundtrack featuring tracks recorded in the Mojave Desert.  Today the musical polymath is back with his latest project, “Ratio“; an epic track bordering on 19-minutes that harks back to his earlier dance floor focused releases
“Applies the expanded scope of [‘Elainia’] to the dance music
of his first few singles, stretching out for 19 minutes of slowly
unfolding analog sounds and pulsing techno drums.

Bully
Losing

Bully burst onto the scene in 2015 with their critically acclaimed album Feels Like. Today the band present Losing. While Feels Like tumbled headlong into the precarious nature of front woman Alicia Bognanno‘s young adult life, Losing is a document of the complexity of growth: navigating breakups with sensitivity, learning not to run away from your troubles but to face them no matter how messy they may be.
“Alicia Bognanno is in her prime as a musician, songwriter, and
producer, and somehow comes out of Losing better than
before, proving herself as one of the most consistent
and impressive artists of the decade.

Destroyer
ken

ken was produced by Josh Wells of Black Mountain, who has been the drummer in Destroyer since 2012. The album was recorded in its entirety in the jam space/studio space that the group calls The Balloon Factory. However, unlike Destroyer’s previous album Poison Season, ken was not recorded as a “band” record, though everyone in the band does make an appearance.
“His 12th album contains semi-acoustic strumming, hurtling shoegaze
and shimmering Italian house, but mostly settles on a blissful,
electronic pop sound that’s often reminiscent of a
hazier, more beatific Temptation-era New Order.

Value

Visionist returns with his second album Value, a precise body of work which across its 10 tracks, builds on his conceptual, thematic process, finding assertion in the values of self-discipline through meticulous composition. Value follows this trajectory of strength and vulnerability by examining broader themes of machismo and effeminacy, self-deprecation and self-love, and self-preservation and validation.

Channeling the big room sound along with the disparate influences of his upbringing, Hope You’re Well was written and recorded off-the-road at a studio in Montreal. “I focused on long form structures,” he explains. “Digital synthesis and clean, hi-fi production was the palette – I strayed from hooks and leaned towards intuitive melodies.”

on Counter Records via Inertia Music

“‘Too Real’ is its own tribute to digital culture – peppered with the purring cell phone
vibrations and the twinkling tones of text messages – but is subtler, sleepier
and sexier. With watercolour softness, he blends the whimsical melodies
of ’80s Japanese house music with contemporary R&B to create a
sound that’s inextricably modern.”

NPR

“Giraffage is an omnivorous music lover.”
Pitchfork

“This San Franciscan is no newcomer, but 2017 is his year.”
Billboard

San Franciscan producer Charlie Yin, best known as Giraffage, has unveiled his new single “Green Tea“, taken from his forthcoming debut album, Too Real, out this Friday. A collaboration with American vocalist Angelica Bess that premiered overnight on The FADER, the track is released on Counter Records via Inertia Music, and follows on from his previous singles from the album, “Slowly“ and “Maybes“.

Combining a soft build with Bess’ smooth vocals, the combination of piano chords, and bass-backed electro synths make for a slow, dreamy production that carries added tempo on the breakdown.

After making a name for himself touring with names like Porter Robinson, Flume, Phantogram, and XXYYXX, Giraffage has taken a sonic leap forward on his debut album Too Real. Inspired by groundbreaking acts as Yellow Magic Orchestra, Haruomi Hosono, Soichi Terada, Interpol, and Radiohead, Too Real acts as an embodiment of the producer’s personal journey of self healing, with each song representing a different period in his life.

“‘This is some of the best music I’ve ever written,” says Yin. “The album was written from 2015 – 2017 during a dark period of my life. So finally finishing it was a rather cathartic experience and I’m excited for what the future may hold.”
