Giraffage
Too Real

San Francisco-based producer Giraffage(Charlie Yin), whose dreamy synth-pop productions have appointed him as one of electronic music’s most refreshing and innovative producers among the landscape, takes a sonic leap forward with his new record Too Real. The album, taking sonic and stylistic cues from disperatct acts like Soichi Terada or Radiohead, “is a return to my musical interests and roots.”
“As a still-young artist exploring new intersections of
timbre and meaning, Yin deserves praise for his
creativity, and optimism about his future.

In 2015 Sam Shepherd – aka Floating Points – released his break out, critically acclaimed debut Elaenia. Earlier this year he followed up the album with Reflections – Mojave Desert, a short film and soundtrack featuring tracks recorded in the Mojave Desert.  Today the musical polymath is back with his latest project, “Ratio“; an epic track bordering on 19-minutes that harks back to his earlier dance floor focused releases
“Applies the expanded scope of [‘Elainia’] to the dance music
of his first few singles, stretching out for 19 minutes of slowly
unfolding analog sounds and pulsing techno drums.

Bully
Losing

Bully burst onto the scene in 2015 with their critically acclaimed album Feels Like. Today the band present Losing. While Feels Like tumbled headlong into the precarious nature of front woman Alicia Bognanno‘s young adult life, Losing is a document of the complexity of growth: navigating breakups with sensitivity, learning not to run away from your troubles but to face them no matter how messy they may be.
“Alicia Bognanno is in her prime as a musician, songwriter, and
producer, and somehow comes out of Losing better than
before, proving herself as one of the most consistent
and impressive artists of the decade.

Destroyer
ken

ken was produced by Josh Wells of Black Mountain, who has been the drummer in Destroyer since 2012. The album was recorded in its entirety in the jam space/studio space that the group calls The Balloon Factory. However, unlike Destroyer’s previous album Poison Season, ken was not recorded as a “band” record, though everyone in the band does make an appearance.
“His 12th album contains semi-acoustic strumming, hurtling shoegaze
and shimmering Italian house, but mostly settles on a blissful,
electronic pop sound that’s often reminiscent of a
hazier, more beatific Temptation-era New Order.

Visionist returns with his second album Value, a precise body of work which across its 10 tracks, builds on his conceptual, thematic process, finding assertion in the values of self-discipline through meticulous composition. Value follows this trajectory of strength and vulnerability by examining broader themes of machismo and effeminacy, self-deprecation and self-love, and self-preservation and validation.

FLOATING POINTS SHARES “KELSO DUNES” FROM REFLECTIONS – MOJAVE DESERT PROJECT

by the partae May 31, 2017
written by the partae

Out Friday June 30 on Pod via Inertia Music
World Premiere set for June 29 streamed via Boiler Room
from Barbican Theatre, London

Following on from the previously shared “Silurian Blue“, Floating Points has unveiled another track from the forthcoming short film and soundtrack Reflections – Mojave Desert, out on Friday June 30 on POD via Inertia Music. The soaring single-edit of “Kelso Dunes” captures Floating Points performing at the foot of dramatic rock formations as the sun fades. The full 12-minute version of “Kelso Dunes” will be available on the full release.

Listen/watch “Kelso Dunes” (edit) below:

Reflections – Mojave Desert finds Floating Points aka Sam Shepherd and his band exploring the sonic environment of the Mojave Desert outside Joshua Tree in this thrilling film shot on location last year.

The world premiere of the film will take place on Thursday June 29 at The Barbican Theatre in London and Boiler Room will host the global live stream of the event. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Shepherd and film director Anna Diaz Ortuño, and hosted by Boiler Room’s Head of Music Raj Chaudhuri.

The first in a planned series of environmental recordings by Floating Points to be filmed and recorded at different locations around the world; the recording was made last year, as Floating Points travelled to the Mojave to rehearse in between US touring. Immediately struck by the distinct sonic tapestry created by the rock formations and valleys, Sam and the band set up a recording operation and filmed this new work at the base of the natural sculptures they encountered. The music of Reflections – Mojave Desert mirrors the landscape: soaring and vast, dynamic and intimate, centred around two longer works and shorter pieces that create a singular and seamless 27-minute experience.

One of London’s most sought-after DJs, producers and live entities, Floating Points has toured with The xx – supporting their record breaking string of dates at Brixton Academy, collaborated with Caribou, Four Tet, and has performed across the globe including festivals like Glastonbury, Primavera, Pitchfork Festival Europe, Coachella and a well received closing set at St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival across Australia. Floating Points’ debut LP Elaenia was deemed Resident Advisor’s Album of the Year in 2015, an accolade vehemently supported by many here in the Inertia office. This was followed by the Kuiper EP in 2016.

Reflections – Mojave Desert features five entirely new compositions, and is available digitally and physically as LP+DVD or CD/DVD packages on Friday June 30 on Pod via Inertia Music.
