ANNOUNCES EAST COAST TOUR DATES FOR 2018 DEBUT ALBUM ‘DEEPEST CREATURES’ OUT NOW

INSTORES ANNOUNCED, VINYL RELEASED DECEMBER 15 INKS DEAL WITH DEW PROCESS PUBLISHING

Evan Klar continues to build on the momentum of debut album ‘Deepest Creatures’, with the announcement today of three very special East Coast tour dates for 2018.

He will perform with full band on 24th February at The Toff Melbourne, 2nd March at Brighton Up Bar in Sydney and 3rd March at Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane.

Klar will also undertake two instore performances and signings to support the release of ‘Deepest Creatures’ and co-inciding with the vinyl edition hitting stores on December 15. These events will take place:

Friday December 15             Sonic Sherpa Records Brisbane – 5pm

Saturday December 16         Record Paradise Melbourne – 3pm

‘Deepest Creatures’ kicked off with first single ‘Sleep’, followed by ‘Barefoot’, which received spins on triple j and community radio and chalked up more than 700,000 streams.  Most recently, Evan Klar released the album’s title track, complete with stunning Riley Blakeway video – VIEW HERE.

The album ‘Deepest Creatures’ was created in the UK, and produced by Ash Workman (Metronomy / Christine & The Queens) and presents as a cinematic like landscape with lush, woven sounds and heavy percussion.

Following the recent announcement of his signing to Play Nice/Interscope for the US, comes news of a Dew Process / Kobalt worldwide publishing deal, a nod to the global appeal of his exceptional songwriting.  Klar is thrilled to be working with the Dew Process team, saying today, “Signing with Dew Process felt like the easiest decision after realising how well Fergus, Harry and the team knew my music, and the future projects they had already envisioned. Before there was a deal on table they hooked me up with a collaboration with producer/writer Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, Jungle Giants etc) which really hit the spot. Kon’s a beast in the studio and I am so grateful they put me forward. I don’t think I’ve felt this confident about something in a long time. Sweet times ahead for sure.”

The album ‘Deepest Creatures’ was created in the UK, and produced by Ash Workman (Metronomy / Christine & The Queens) and presents as a cinematic like landscape with lush, woven sounds and heavy percussion.

Humble about his processes, Evan Klar describes his approach to composition as more of an organic “dabble” that is closer to sound design than it is to traditional songwriting. Arguably, it’s a method that sets him apart from the pack and where the cinematic quality of his music truly shines though.

“I’m really interested in film and video game scores and sound design,” he muses. “It’s a huge part of my inspiration.” A self-confessed cinephile, this close adoration of film led Evan Klar to a process that worked for him –just like a visual score, it’s not uncommon for one of his songs to start with a field recording or atmospheric track.

A great example of Evan Klar’s skill with soundscapes is the single, “Sleep”, which opens with rainfall, breathing and an atmospheric groove. Not only is this the track that introduces the world to Evan Klar and his approach, but it’s also the opener on the album, and for a reason. “Sleep really is a track that sets the scene,” he says “I’m not a particularly serious person, so I sort of treated this, lyrically especially, as a nursery rhyme. It’s like my beginning, the start of growing up, an opening, someone waking inside a dream.” Hence, “Sleep” is mysterious, warm and likeable in its composition.

It’s important to note that Evan Klar is about connection, not self-communication. It’s music that aches for universal truths and is written as such. Music based on personal experience, yet with Evan Klar removed just enough to allow for interpretation. “For me, it’s more about other people than it is about myself, there’s no doubt about that,” says the composer, noting a reoccurring theme of relationships threaded through. “I write about my own experiences, but I make it cryptic enough so that someone could apply it to their own life or something they might be going through.”

Exactly like a journey, ‘Deepest Creatures’ is composed with a beginning, middle and an end and with an overall tone of optimism, curiosity and motivation at the heart – a reflection of the artist himself. “Nothing about me is a recipe for rock and roll,” he laughs. “I’m into being healthy and taking care of myself, so I like to think that my songs are motivating and might help get people out of rough places.” He adds, “I can’t see how anyone could be unhappy making music, it’s when I’m most happiest and I hope this inspires someone listening to it and takes them somewhere.” Not unlike the escapism one feels when immersed in a great tale, he agrees. 

Named as ‘one to watch’ by GQ Australia and now with over 1.2million streams of ‘Sleep’ and ‘Barefoot’ under his belt, Evan Klar has been described as a ‘star in the making’ by Pilerats, whilst The Music has earmarked ‘Deepest Creatures’ as one of “Ten local albums you need to know about in November.”

Klar recently completed an East Coast tour, including a mesmerising live set at Rolling Stone’s Live Lodge.

In international news, he has also scored a US release for the ‘Deepest Creatures’ album, via newly formed label Play Nice / Interscope. Home to artists like Mr Jukes (Bombay Bicycle Club) and Gin Wigmore.

Announcing Evan Klar’s debut album ‘Deepest Creatures’, set for release on November 10. Pre-empting the album’s release is title track ‘Deepest Creatures’ complete with stunning Riley Blakeway directed video – VIEW HERE.

Blakeway was excited to work with Evan Klar, saying “When I first heard the track, I immediately felt a sense of escapism.  The idea took off from there and once I knew that shooting in New Zealand was a possibility, I started developing the story with that in mind.   I was drawn to the idea of a young girl escaping from an oppressive all-male household and going on somewhat of a surrealist adventure.  NZ made this possible.  The landscape is incredible there, even when only an hour or two outside of the city.  I pitched the idea to Evan and he was on board, so we spent two weeks in NZ working on the film with the team at Robber’s Dog.  Stoked on how it all came together.”

Evan articulates the inspiration behind the song, which ultimately lead to the arresting video. “My favourite books growing up were The Big Jump and Where the Wild Things Are. Along with some others, they are the stories that stuck with me, and they still keep me on my feet. With Deepest Creatures I tried to find that same warming confidence I found when I read those books.  With the video, Riley found his own story which, when I initially read his treatment, felt incredible. He took a short film approach and delivered something honest and powerful. Deepest Creatures is a simple song about imagination, growing up and escaping. I think Riley discovered that perfectly.”
