What is your name?
My Name is Torsun and I am the main songwriter and singer of Egotronic.
How did you start?
At the age of 13 I started playing in a punk band. I learned to play guitar, bass and drums on my own and in the middle of the 90s I learned to make electronic music. Then I founded Egotronic.
Where are you based?
I am based in Berlin.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
First I record a demo version of a new song on my own or with my band mate Kilian. Then I send the song to the whole crew, so they can learn the structure of it. After this we go to the rehearsal room to practice and bring the song to perfection. Last step is to go to the studio and record the final version of the song.
What are you working on right now?
In January this year we recorded a new Album. It sounds much more punk than electro. At the moment I’m trying to do some Trap-Stuff with my girlfriend.
What is your gear setup?
With Egotronic we use drums, guitars, bass guitars and a lot of old analogue synthesizers. To produce the demo versions of new songs I use Logic on mac.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
I read lots of books and I love making memes with Photoshop.
How would you describe your music genre?
It’s electropunk. Former it was more electro and now it’s more punk.
Do you know any music theory?
No. I can’t even read notes.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to record some trap tracks with my girlfriend and maybe release a demo tape.
How did you get into music?
I started listening to punk rock at the age of 12. One year later some friends and I started running our own punk band.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Right now I like the music of Lil Peep and the first Album of the Wipers “Is This Real?”.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
Andreas Dorau, Angeschissen, Wipers, Console, Mikron 64
When are you playing next?
On July 14th we’ll be playing a small festival in the south of Germany and one week later we’ll be playing at Deichbrand, one of the biggest festivals in northern Germany.
