What is your name and role within Curbi?

My real name is Toby Curwen-Bingley. Originally I was the only one working under Curbi, but after I got signed to Spinnin’ Records & MusicAllStars there have been a lot more people working for Curbi behind the scenes. I simply make the music, DJ and represent the face of Curbi.

How did you start?

I guess it all started when I began playing the drums from the age of 7, after that I was hooked on the thought of making music. Once I turned 14 I began making music on the computer and here I am now!

Where are you based?

I’m still based in England with my parents, but I’m hoping to move out later this year/next year to Amsterdam.

Please give an example of your music writing process?

It varies a lot. Sometimes I’ll start off with a melody, other times I’ll have a cool drum pattern. A lot of my tracks are put together after I have a drop idea though.

What are you working on right now?

Working on a lot of stuff at the moment. I have a couple of big collaborations which are sounding awesome, a couple of remixes, and of course solo’s!

What is your gear setup?

In my bedroom studio I have 2 KRK Rokit 5’s together with a KRK 10s Subwoofer, an LG monitor, Dell XPS 15, and CDJ’s with a DJM-900 Nexus mixer. However, I work a lot on just my laptop when I’m travelling.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

Travel!! I’m obsessed with travelling and meeting new people haha. That’s the true source of my inspiration I believe.

How would you describe your music genre?

Well in my opinion I’d say that I have no specific genre. I guess I have a sound/style which when people hear, they can instantly tell it’s me.. but I wouldn’t put myself in a genre box 🙂 Always developing and trying new things!

Do you know any music theory?

I know the basics, but I’m not that great with the technical side of music. Honestly almost everything is done by ear!

What are your plans for the future?

Constantly pushing out new music, playing shows across the world, working on an album.. yeah the list is endless haha. They are some big priorities though!

How did you get into music?

I think my dad is really the one who got me into music. Before I got into dance music, he used to take me to all sorts of gigs and I think that broadened my musical taste haha.
