CHILDCARE share perception challenging new single ‘Magazines’ and release new EP ‘Luckyucker’

by the partae July 16, 2018
written by the partae

CHILDCARE follow the slinky art-rock of Put Down Your Pen and the bold and brooding Big Manwith the perception challenging skittish groove of Magazines – completing the set of singles taken from their new EP Luckyucker, both out today via Elephant Records.

“On the way to Hampstead Heath last year I noticed a Big Issue seller who looked different from normal; a well-spoken, middle aged, white and middle class woman” frontman Ed Cares explains,“This song is about the surprise of seeing someone from my tribe selling the magazine on the street, the realisation that any of us could end up there, and the guilt of feeling a particular sympathy towards her.”

The track’s assertive tempo is driven constantly forward by Emma Topolski’s bass and Glyn Daniels’ brawny drums, before Rich Le Gate’s rivetingly discordant guitar slashes to the fore in a hypnotic freak out of a climax. The post-coital coda sees Ed sum up the track’s message in an Oasis-like sing-along, beery and brash.

The group’s now oft recanted formation story remains a point of interest. It all started when EdCares, one of West London’s most in-demand male nannies, was overheard humming a song he had written, by Katie, aged six, who persuaded him to form a band. Josh, eight, boldly proclaimed:“You’re probably my second favourite artist after Katy Perry.”

Their debut EP, ‘Made Simple’, released last year, earned them all sorts of tastemaker acclaim and national radio play with prestigious UK titles DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Wonderland and The 405 all tipping the group as one’s to watch.

With a sling of festivals including the legendary Reading and Leeds and a recent Radio 1 Maida Vale session tucked safely under their belts, the band’s vivid and visceral live show shouldn’t be missed.

By adding yet another stellar single to their oeuvre in Magazines, and following their acclaimed debut EP with Luckyucker, CHILDCARE look set to cement themselves as one of London’s most exciting emerging acts.

In support of the release of their Luckyucker  EP the band will head out on a two week UK headline tour in October.

CHILDCARE are Ed Cares (vocals) Emma Topolski (Bass, Vocals), Rich Le Gate (Guitar, Backing Vocals) and Glyn Daniels (Drums, Backing Vocals) and their Luckyucker EP was produced by Mr BJ Jackson and is out July 13th via Elephant Records

London art-punk quartet CHILDCARE push beyond the echo chamber on new single ‘Big Man’

by the partae April 20, 2018

London art-punk quartet CHILDCARE offer second taste of upcoming ‘Luckyucker’ EP with new singleBig Man + announce UK tour in October

“Big Man” sees CHILDCARE load up on snarling cynicism, articulating their thoughts through menacing interweaving melodies whilst ultimately encouraging more active and inclusive conversation when it comes to the current political climate.” The Line of Best Fit

Pushing beyond the echo-chamber, CHILDCARE follow the slinky art-rock of Put Down Your Penwith the bold and brooding Big Man, an alternative take on dealing with bubble-breaking disagreement and family friction.

The second single from their upcoming ‘Luckyucker’ EP, Big Man seeks to address the difficulties of contrasting world views, immigration and accusations of liberal elitism, all in a tidy 3 minutes and 53 seconds. Frontman Ed Cares explains:

“There’s a place for fighting and affirming the values you stand up for, but too often we ridicule and dismiss those we disagree with. I’m bored of broad-brush Tory bashing and of hearing that everyone who voted for Brexit is stupid. This song is a reminder that we need to listen and try and understand those who believe differently from us.”

The band will head out on a two week UK headline tour in October to support the release of the ‘Luckyucker’ EP.

The group’s now oft recanted formation story remains a point of interest. It all started when EdCares, one of West London’s most in-demand male nannies, was overheard humming a song he had written, by Katie, aged six, who persuaded him to form a band. The quartet is completed by Emma Topolski (Bass, Vocals), Rich Le Gate (Guitar, Backing Vocals) and Glyn Daniels (Drums, Backing Vocals).

London quartet CHILDCARE drop arresting new single ‘Put Down Your Pen’

Buzzy London quartet CHILDCARE reveal arresting new single Put Down Your Pen

CHILDCARE ~ ‘Put Down Your Pen’

“It probably will make you put down your pen and listen.” DIY

CHILDCARE strike a more sombre note on their latest single Put Down Your Pen, a muscle shuffle of a letter to a pen-friend, in a Smokey Robinson meets At The Drive In kind of a way. The sleepy, ever-descending bass groove draws you in, before angular guitar squalls bring you juddering back to your senses. Vocalist Ed Cares delivers his most softly spoken performance to date, before the invigorating chorus takes a more imperious turn.

On the track’s theme, Cares gives little away: “This song is about a penfriendship I had with someone.”

The group’s now oft recanted formation story remains a point of interest. It all started when Ed Cares, one of West London’s most in-demand male nannies, was overheard humming a song he had written, by Katie, aged six, who persuaded him to form a band. Josh, eight, boldly proclaimed: “You’re probably my second favourite artist after Katy Perry.”

Debut EP, Made Simple, released earlier this year, earned them all sorts of tastemaker acclaim and national radio play. Prestigious UK tastemakers DIY, The Line of Best Fit, Wonderland and The 405 all tipping the group as one’s to watch.

With a sling of festivals, including the legendary Reading and Leeds, and a recent Radio 1 Maida Vale sessiontucked safely under their belts, the band’s vivid and visceral live show has gone from strength to strength. Affirming this, the quartet set out on their first ever headline tour through November.

By adding yet another stellar single to their oeuvre in Put Down Your Pen, CHILDCARE look set to cement themselves as one of London’s most exciting emerging acts.

The quartet is completed by Emma Topolski (Bass, Vocals), Rich Legate (Guitar, Backing Vocals) and Glyn Daniels (Drums, Backing Vocals).
