What is your name and role within Capital Letters?
JB – Singer, Bass Player and one of the founder members.
How did you start?
Myself and two other friends started the band in1971, based in Wolverhampton. they both lost interest but I decided to continue and find new members.
Where are you based?
Wolverhampton.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
As a group we all get together to talk about things that we have seen and heard in the press or media, and then the words and music just start to flow.
What are you working on right now?
Our new album, no title as yet – but we have just released a track from the album called ‘Judgement Day’.
What is your gear setup?
Bass, drums, two guitars, two keyboards, horns, two main vocals and two backing vocals.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
I am now retired so I just enjoy life. I’m also lucky to have lots of grandchildren that keep me busy.
How would you describe your music genre?
Reggae.
What are your plans for the future?
To keep doing what I enjoy and live life to the full.
How did you get into music?
One day, a cousin of mine came to see me and told me that he played the guitar and had a friend who played the keyboard…he then asked me if I’d like to play bass. Having no knowledge of playing any instruments I bought a book on the art of playing bass and taught myself.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Listening to my tracks on the new album.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
Marcus Garvey, Haile Selassie, Martin Luther King, Bob Marley and the Wailers, The Maytals.
When are you playing next?
We have taken a break from gigs to concentrate on the new album, but we hope to finish within the next couple of months.
