alt-J Release Emotive Video For ‘Pleader’ + AU & NZ Tour Starts In Two Weeks With Special Guests Warpaint [AU Only]

alt-J Release Emotive Video For ‘Pleader’ + AU & NZ Tour Starts In Two Weeks With Special Guests Warpaint [AU Only]

Ahead of their Australia & New Zealand tour kicking off in two weeks’ time, alt-J have today released an epic short film to accompany ‘Pleader’.

Directed by award-winning director Isaiah Seret, whose work has been featured at the Los Angeles Film Festival and Art Basel Miami, the short film stars Sophie Cookson (Gypsy, Kingsman) and Morgan Watkins (A Little Chaos, Suffragette) and was filmed in the Rhonda Valley in South Wales. The latest in an extensive list of uniquely creative, award winning videos by alt-J, the video for ‘Pleader’ chronicles life from birth to death, with real birth footage lifted from an experimental film by Stan Brakhage from 1959 and apocalyptic moments fit for a disaster movie interspersed with shots of the glorious Welsh countryside, fitting as the track itself is inspired by Richard Llewlyn’s book How Green Was My Valley?.

“When we set out to make a video for ‘Pleader’,” alt-J tell NPR. “Joe sent the following one line brief to director Isaiah Seret: “a Welsh mining love story; a tidal wave of earth.” What Isaiah came back with was an epic short film, inspired both by the song’s source material and Tarkovsky’s The Sacrifice. A family must pit their desire to have a child against the knowledge that this would destroy their community. The hypnotic, hymnal quality of the song binds the video throughout, hinting at redemption while destruction takes place.”

Since releasing RELAXER in June, alt-J have spent the year touring internationally, including a headline show at London’s O2 Arena for the venue’s 10th birthday celebrations, and headlining The Other Stage at Glastonbury Festival.

Now it is Australia’s turn to be spellbound by the trio that is alt-J, playing masterful shows, in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane.

Here’s just a small taste of what the critics have said:

‘It’s an absolutely masterful 90 minutes. One that casts the band as radio-friendly chart toppers, experimental boundary-pushers and lust-fuelled weirdos at the same time. “
DIY

“alt-J’s meticulously crafted musical vision, in short, works. The band supplied a far-reaching synesthetic experience — though their song structures, lyricism and instrumentation may seem maddeningly bizarre on paper, they felt viscerally essential on stage.”

The Cavalier Daily

“The band’s eccentricity and musical genius [are] a welcome part of the Australian music tour scene.”

alt-J ANNOUNCE AUSTRALIAN & NEW ZEALAND TOUR THIS DECEMBER WITH SPECIAL GUESTS WARPAINT [AU ONLY] + NEW ALBUM RELAXER OUT NEXT WEEK

by the partae May 26, 2017
written by the partae

Frontier Touring are thrilled to announce one of the return of alt-J, one of the most successful British bands of the millennium, to Australia and New Zealand this December. The trio will be joined at all Australian shows by Los Angeles quartet Warpaint.
Quietly, resolutely, impressively, singularly, alt-J have become one of the biggest British bands of whatever it is we’re calling the 21st century’s second decade. Art-electro, math-folk, hymnal-rock, call it what you will, the music made by alt-J is the muscular sound of cutting edge innovation pumped by a melodically bleeding heart. Ten years after forming at Leeds University, alt-J are a post-guitar group for the new-pop generation. And as audiences all over the world know, when they get going, they rock hard.
‘alt-J aren’t just masters of their trade – they’re innovators.’ – Digital Spy
‘The band’s eccentricity and musical genius [are] a welcome part of the Australian music tour scene.’ – Music Feeds.
alt-J’s highly anticipated third album RELAXER will be released next Friday 2 June (via Liberator Music/Infectious Music/BMG) on CD, heavyweight vinyl and digitally.
Ahead of its release, ‘3WW’ as well as ‘In Cold Blood’ have both been made available to fans, and today, alt-J have released ‘Adeline’ as a further taste of what’s to come on RELAXER.
The release of RELAXER follows alt-J’s Grammy and Brit Award-nominated This Is All Yours, which debuted at #2 in Australia and #1 in the UK. Their debut An Awesome Wave won the 2012 Mercury Prize and an Ivor Novello Award. Between them, the two albums have sold in excess of two million copies worldwide and their songs have been streamed well over 1 billion times.

Three years of worldwide touring have forged alt-J’s reputation as a fierce live act. alt-J have headlined festivals across the globe, including Australia’s very own Falls Music and Arts Festival, and on their last international tour, alt-J sold out the London’s iconic O2 Arena and New York’s legendary Madison Square Garden.
Los Angeles quartet Warpaint will make their return to Australia to support alt-J. Warpaint’s studio albums emphasise moody atmospheres, with gauzy keyboards, hypnotic harmonies, and sinister grooves. In concert, they pair this moodiness with bumped-up tempos and sinewy beats. Their live performances dazzle, and their shows are met with much delight from fans and critics alike.
alt-J will return to Australia and New Zealand this December following shows throughout Europe and the United States.
