ALEX CAMERON WITH ROY MOLLOY (ON HORN)

FEBRUARY MELBOURNE HEADLINE SHOW UPGRADED TO CORNER HOTEL DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND + SYDNEY SELLING FAST PRESENTED BY I OH YOU & NOISEY

I OH YOU has today announced that Alex Cameron‘s Melbourne headline show on February 14th has been upgraded to Corner Hotel to accommodate high demand. Alex’s February 13th show at Oxford Art Factory has also been hugely popular, with just a small handful of tickets remaining.

In the last 18 months, Cameron has spent the majority of his time on the road in the Northern Hemisphere touring with the likes of Angel Olsen, Whitney and The Killers and garnering high praise at each turn and in turn, earning himself and Roy a hugely dedicated following who hang from their every word.

“Forced Witness transcends its surface-level smarm to become a biting piece of commentary” – Pitchfork

“It’s got more than enough power to carry you through the emotions it elicits” – The Fader

His second LP Forced Witness sees Cameron at his most visceral, cutting best. WithForced Witness, Cameron’s solution to the difficulties we face is a danceable and dangerous earnestness, a sense of honesty that heals and relieves even as it cleaves us or makes us laugh in self-defence. He’s offering portraits of misfits’ views of the world, presented without illusion.

Recorded in Berlin in an old East German radio station, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, and produced by Cameron along with Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado, these tracks at first seem shamelessly entertaining, the driving rhythms and rousing melodies embellished at every turn by Molloy’s warm horn-work.

Tickets to Alex Cameron’s upgraded Melbourne show at the Corner Hotel are on sale now and remaining tickets to Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory are nearly sold out. Fans are encouraged to move quickly to avoid disappointment.

All previously purchased tickets for Howler will be valid at the newly upgraded Corner Hotel show.

Alex Cameron presents “Politics Of Love” video

ALEX CAMERON PRESENTS “POLITICS OF LOVE” VIDEO

Forced Witness out now on Secretly Canadian via Inertia Music Playing Laneway Festival 2018

“The art-sleaze of Alex Cameron’s second album transcends its surface-level
smarm to become a biting piece of commentary. Thankfully, the songs
are as effortlessly catchy as they are eminently creepy.
”

Pitchfork

Currently wrapping up a UK support run for The Killers, with another North American arena tour on the horizon, Alex Cameron presents yet another standout video today in support of Forced Witness, out this past September on Secretly Canadian via Inertia Music. This time it’s a video from the mind of Cameron’s business partner and saxophone player, Roy Molloy, for the album’s final number, “Politics of Love”, a song written by Cameron, Molloy, Jonathan Rado, Brandon Flowers, and Jacknife Lee.

“We all wanna know how it’s gonna end you guys. We gonna find ourselves
sat robed in the clouds surrounded by humourless good citizens? We gonna
wake up in a tube, our fluids bein processed, an endless nightmare
in the blink of an eye? Me? I like to think it’s gonna feel just like
how it felt before we were born. Nothingness as cool and
calm as a snowflake. No news is good news.
”
Roy Molloy

The Alex Cameron six-piece band stormed across North America in September, selling out shows in LA, Chicago, DC, Toronto, Montreal, Boston and Brooklyn, and a round of US arena shows supporting The Killers is scheduled for next year. 2018 will kick off in Alex’s native Australia with the Laneway Festival run, as well as headline dates in Sydney and Melbourne. Out Now Friday September 8 Alex Cameron Forced Witness – THE PARTAE

Alex Cameron Forced Witness

Bearing witness to the baroque clusterf*ckery of the world is no longer voluntary. We are all forced to watch. Every possible catastrophe vibrates in our pockets, demanding to be witnessed. In his second album, Forced Witness, Alex Cameron’s solution to the difficulties we face is a danceable and dangerous earnestness, a sense of honesty that heals and relieves even as it cleaves us or makes us laugh in self-defense.

“When the Zeit has run out of geist, and Post Modernism is passe,
there will be Alex Cameron. A sharper, more dialed in songwriter
you would be hard pressed to find.

ALEX CAMERON PRESENTS NEW SINGLE “RUNNIN’ OUTTA LUCK” Featuring Roy Molloy, Brandon Flowers and Kirin J. Callinan

Forced Witness out next Friday on Secretly Canadian via Inertia Music

“Forced Witness has a grander sound, thanks to a full band and
co-production by Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado. Here, you can kind of
imagine a pervy version of Bruce Springsteen playing Giants Stadium,
where he and everyone in the audience are hooked up to both life
support and the Craigslist Casual Encounters page.
”
Flavorwire

Forced Witness, the second album by Sydney’s lyrical lothario Alex Cameron, is set for a Friday September 8 release on Secretly Canadian via Inertia Music. After sharing “Candy May” and “Stranger’s Kiss” – the duet with Angel Olsen – Cameron now presents “Runnin’ Outta Luck” and its accompanying video, filmed in the Hastings, UK seaside and directed by Nick MacMahon.

The song was written by Cameron, Roy Molloy (saxophone) and Brandon Flowers (backing vocals, guitars, keyboards, bass), and features Jonathan Rado (guitars, keyboards, bass) and Kirin J Callinan (guitar). Cameron describes it below.

“Most of the time me ‘n’ Roy have around 80 bucks in our business bank account. Good money. Kind of money makes you taste every egg in the omelette. I remember we’d played a show in Tallahassee to about seven people, and we were driving over to Atlanta to make a flight. Spirits were high. What with Roy tapping at the steering wheel and me eating my peanut M&Ms. Then my phone vibrated in my pocket. But it wasn’t a notification about terrorism or another nude on my Instagram. It was an email from Brandon Flowers.

Take about two months outta the equation and find me ‘n’ Roy living at the Palms Resort up on Flamingo out there off the Vegas strip. Bein’ far from a millionaire doesn’t mean you can’t live like a millionaire and success doesn’t always hinge on good luck, it can be about other people’s bad luck. Brandon was in a bind with his lyrics, and we were in a bind with our never having come close to a radio hit.

Me, Roy ‘n’ Brandon wrote this song in a day after hiking out to old Icebox Canyon they got out there. Kinda place where they filmed James Gandolfini crying. Kinda place where guys with ponytails climb cliff faces without spotters.

You don’t have to be lucky. Just make sure everyone around you stays unlucky.”

Alex Cameron’s solution to the difficulties we are forced to watch in this baroque clusterf*ckery of the world is a sense of honesty that heals and relieves even as it cleaves us or makes us laugh in self-defense. He’s offering us vivid portraits of misfits who look at the world without illusion and a pure account of the world as he’s seen it. These tracks at first seem shamelessly entertaining, but the love songs and anthems of personal resilience contain as much raw humanity as they do a savvy grasp of the impossible loneliness of the times. If there is darkness in these songs, it is not because taboos can titillate but because Cameron knows that confession has a redeeming power and that people are often at their most startlingly beautiful when their skies have fallen. These songs are alive with the rich detail of life lived and the radical distinctiveness of the stories they tell feel universal.

ALEX CAMERON ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM FORCED WITNESS

by the partae July 3, 2017
written by the partae

Out Friday September 8 on Secretly Canadian via Inertia Music

Presents video for lead single “Candy May”

Bearing witness to the baroque clusterf*ckery of the world is no longer voluntary. We are all forced to watch. Every possible catastrophe vibrates in our pockets, demanding to be witnessed. In his second album, Forced Witness, out Friday September 8 on Secretly Canadian via Inertia Music, Alex Cameron’s solution to the difficulties we face is a danceable and dangerous earnestness, a sense of honesty that heals and relieves even as it cleaves us or makes us laugh in self-defense. He’s offering us vivid portraits of misfits who look at the world without illusion.

Recorded in Berlin, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas and produced by Cameron along with Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado, these tracks at first seem shamelessly entertaining, the driving rhythms and rousing melodies embellished at every turn by Roy Molloy’s warm hornwork. But the love songs and anthems of personal resilience contain as much raw humanity as they do a savvy grasp of the impossible loneliness of the times, especially apparent in the song “Stranger’s Kiss” — Cameron’s affecting duet with Angel Olsen (who also sings backup on lead single, “Candy May”).  The defiantly bloody knuckles in “Runnin’ Outta Luck” co-written by and featuring Brandon Flowers and the grime of wet dreams in “Country Figs” occupy the same space as the great sadness of the internet in the catchy and contemplative song “True Lies”, in which Cameron sings about that buzzing hive of randomised sexuality where we can either submit to the stirrings in our own laps or let our fragile hopes catfish us. Penultimate track “Marlon Brando”, is, as Cameron describes it, “a study of a man in the hopeless pursuit of a woman. He is a familiar character in the world, a self-assured jock, a dullard, a low grade human who uses a specific kind of language when he finds a situation outside of his control. The song’s lyrics present a damning indictment of homophobia and misogyny and their genesis in toxic masculinity.”

In these chaotic times when we aren’t able to look away, Cameron is offering us a pure account of the world as he’s seen it.

Watch the video for first single “Candy May” above, directed by Meghan McGarry. As she describes it, “‘Candy May’ is a visual, gut-wrenching longing, seeping out through the skin with a swagger that is distinctively Alex Cameron.”
