Supermild Weekender announces Motor City Drum Ensemble and more…!

The debut of Supermild Weekender is a three-day camping, music, food, and arts event on the stunning grounds of Mitchelton... Supermild is a music and camping festival with a considered approach to the arts, food and recreation. Situated within the remarkable Goulburn Valley one finds Mitchelton, a sprawling estate beside the Goulburn River. This impressive domain is home to a world-class restaurant, art gallery and reputable winery.  With over 25 international and local acts covering live bands and DJs, Motor City Drum Ensemble will headline the impressive lineup. In a true display of his breadth, the stage will be handed over to MCDE to perform and curate the entire musical program on Sunday. Hand-picked by MCDE is world-renowned French funk and disco pundit, Jeremy Underground, plus two local acts: Melbourne's jazz-funk collective 30/70, and the self-proclaimed purveyors of the intergalactic hard groove, WVR BVBY. Supermild will also welcome Acid Pauli, who will be returning to Australia for the first time in four years, and Nightmares on Wax, the master of the chill and downbeat genre.   Mitchelton's The Muse restaurant will also host three Super-Sit-Up meals designed by a selection of Australia's most esteemed chefs, including Peter Gunn, the award-winning owner and chef of IDES restaurant; Shane Delia, the operator and chef of Maha East Restaurant, and Ascot Food Storeowner Dave Stewart. There will be tickets available for various sittings spread across the whole weekend to suit everyone's needs, and outside of the Super-Sit-Up meals the restaurant's a-la-carte menu will be open for business. Additionally, food vendors will be accessible in the allocated 'Supermarket' section across the entire weekend.  The whole event will be accentuated with works from a selection of Melbourne’s finest visual artists includingVictorian College of the Arts awards winner Yandell Walton, and sculptural installation artist Emme Orbach. All ticket holders will receive access to Mitchelton's Gallery of Aboriginal Art which will house a very prestigious and special exhibition: the works of world-renowned First Nations artist, Clifford ‘Possum’ Tjapaltjarri and his family, alongside real-time live paintings from family membersGabriella ‘Possum’ Nungurrayi and Michelle ‘Possum’ Nungurrayi. Finally, the weekender will provide access to health and welfare practices, boat cruises and much more. With the fluid unification of these worlds in mind, a string of creatives at the top of their fields have been selected, to comprise the full 2019 Supermild lineup. Whether an energetic soul riff he has composed or a rough yet enlightening deep house track he has remixed, the texture in the MCDE sound is distinctive and dynamic. An ensemble of foundational and contemporary musical understandings kissing jazz, soul, house and hip-hop. Exceeding many of his contemporaries Plessow's name rest within RA's top 10 of all time. He is the man behind the seminal classic album, Smoker’s Delight, a cultural moment that captured the nineties zeitgeist and sparked the explosion of the chill/downtempo genre. Drawing on her experiences growing up in Papua New Guinea, Ngaiire has a career that crosses genre and art form. Her work has seen her grace the stages of Glastonbury to Splendour In The Grass, national tours alongside artists as varied as Flume, Sufjan Stevens and Alicia Keys, compose music scores for dance companies and have her work performed at experimental art spaces including MOMA New York. There he runs the kitchen and maintains strong relationships with suppliers to source local and biodynamic produce. Whilst her work employs a digital medium it is utterly defined by the changes in our real environment. Her digital narratives shine a powerful light back onto us as humans and our impact. Immersive works that connect to the viewer, and the viewer to the challenges they face. At Supermild expansive works are set to inspire action from individuals as they come across them. Exhibiting the outstanding work that continues to be produced in this field today, the gallery was created to provide an inspiring new space for locals and visitors to experience the artworks of Australia’s first people. During Supermild, the gallery will host the works of Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri and his family, alongside real-time live paintings from family members Gabriella ‘Possum’ Nungurrayi and Michelle ‘Possum’ Nungurrayi. Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri has had a remarkable and active career. His works are amongst the few indigenous contemporaries to be recognised by the international art world. Like Albert Namatjira before him, Clifford Possum blazed a trail for future generations of Indigenous artists; bridging the gap between Aboriginal art and contemporary Australian art. These works house knowledge and histories which are a privilege to be shared, they are the fabric of the land, from a living culture which is tens of thousands of years old.Mitchelton Gallery Emme Orbach (AUS)   Emme Orbach is a Melbourne-based sculptural installation artist concerned with the anthropocene. Her practice explores ways in which systems of nature co-exist and collide with human-made structures over time. Among Emme’s best-known works is a ‘crystal’ series in which minimalist aluminium sculptures are submerged in a liquid chemical solution; allowing the residual growth of crystals to take over and encompass the form. Her practice explores ways in which systems of nature co-exist and collide with human-made structures over time. Among Emme’s best-known works is a ‘crystal’ series in which minimalist aluminium sculptures are submerged in a liquid chemical solution; allowing the residual growth of crystals to take over and encompass the form. Emme’s recent work has an environmental and political focus on the Australian recycling crisis, bringing light to many illegal stockpile sites throughout Victoria. Website
