We’ve got your household names, your radio favourites… And then, in celebration of NAIDOC Week (which begins same day, 8 November), we’re also bringing you an episode full of poignant, unmissable performances by some of our best First Nation voices. This will not disappoint!

Joining hosts Jane Gazzo and Bridget Hustwaite on Sunday are two special guest co-hosts: first up, 17x ARIA nominee and radio broadcaster Christine AnuWith a career spanning 27 years and the promise of new music in 2021, incredibly it’s been 25 years since the release of her debut platinum album, Stylin’ Up, plus the iconic smash hit that was ‘My Island Home’ (a Warumpi Band cover). She is joined by one of our best-loved names: Olympic medallist, ground-breaking sprinter and star of that infamous, once-in-a-lifetime track race: Cathy Freeman OAM.

  • Filmed during the recording sessions for their just-released mini album, The Makarrata Project, episode headliners Midnight Oil return to The Sound for a world exclusive performance of ‘Change The Date’ feat. Gurrumul and Dan Sultan. The special track features a previously unreleased vocal called Lorrpu (white cockatoo) by Yolngu man Gurrumul, including never-before-seen footage released to The Sound with the blessing of his family
  • Filmed outside Melbourne’s iconic Flinders Street Station on an early Sunday morning post-lockdown, don’t miss a stunning performance by beloved multi-ARIA award-winner Missy Higgins, who delivers her new single ‘When The Machine Starts’, released 6 Nov
  • Music legend, Stolen Generations survivor and 2020 Victorian Australian of the Year: The Sound is honoured to feature Archie Roach AM, joined this week by award-winning singer and composer Jess Hitchcock. 13 November sees the release of The Songs Of Charcoal Lane – recordings celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album Charcoal Lane, songs captured at his kitchen table during the Covid-19 lockdown
  • Hailing from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, psychedelic surf-rockers and 2020 ARIA Best Rock Album nominees Ocean Alley make their debut on The Sound. Topping 2018’s triple j Hottest 100 with ‘Confidence’, with three studio albums the band’s upward trajectory continues to rise. Check out their recent #FeelExtraordinary campaign
  • From mattress-proofed recording studios in Melbourne to LA’s most esteemed comedy writing rooms: Briggs is one of Australia’s most talented all-rounders. Don’t miss his incredible performance of new single ‘Good Morning’ (out 4 Nov), lifted from his latest EP, Always Was
  • Fresh from the AFL Grand Final, watch QLD’s Busby Marou performing ‘Lucky Stars’ at Brisbane’s stunning Boondall Wetlands. Taken from 2019’s The Great Divide, the duo is one of Australia’s hardest working live bands, having supported the likes of Elton John
  • Love hip-hop? Following on from his collaboration with the Oils on last week’s program, Tasman Keith – who hails from Bowraville, a NSW hinterland town in the Gumbaynggirr nation, performs his track ‘No Country’, joined by Sydney’s awesome Bad Bitch Choir

Our ‘From The Vault’ clip this week is a slice from famed Aussie band Goanna, who seared into our national consciousness via a powerful, call-to-arms land rights single.

Finally, our ‘Tribute’ collaboration celebrates an incredible NT outfit: Warumpi Band.  Watch as four major talents join forces: the legendary Christine AnuZaachariaha Fielding (Electric Fields), who was awarded ‘Best Live Voice in Australia’ for the National Live Music Awards for the second year running in 2020; Ngaiire – the Papua New Guinean-born, critically acclaimed singer who has been teasing new music recently; plus Emma Donovan, singer with Melbourne rhythm combo The Putbacks, who drop their new album Crossover on 6 Nov.
