What is your name and role within the band?

Ronnie Heart is my own solo project. i write and record 95% of the music. for live performances i have other musicians play with me.

How did you start?

I started working on this project in 2011. i started performing a full live set in about 2013.

Where are you based?

i am based in fort worth, texas, usa.

Please give an example of your music writing process?

usually i start with a motif that eventually evolves into a song. the motif is usually a bass line or a melody that i add a beat to, keyboard chords, guitar parts, and whatever else i feel the song needs. i’ll sing some melodic ideas and slowly write lyrics that start coming to mind. that’s pretty typical of what my song writing experience is like.

What are you working on right now?

i am currently working on my second album.
What is your gear setup?

i use ableton to record and sequence.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

i paint but i don’t feel like it effects my music much.

How would you describe your music genre?

it’s heavily funk based and inspired. i use jazzy chords because i love jazz. but i really dig synth-funk and disco-rock.

Do you know any music theory?

i do! i mainly taught myself some before college. in college i actually took a few music classes but the only one that loosely taught theory what jazz improv.

What are your plans for the future?

i want to win a grammy.

How did you get into music?

i started playing guitar when i was 16.

What are you listening to at the moment?

i am listening to thundercat, solange, kendrick lamar, rare silk, jeanette.
