What is your name and role within RedFaces?
Isaac; Bassist and songwriter.
How did you start?
We just met in school, we were all into music and after being in a few different bands we eventually jammed together and started writing our own tunes – it spiralled from their I guess.Where are you currently based?
Sheffield (up North).

What are you working on right now?
We’re currently recording and preparing to release our 3rd single – so new it doesn’t have a name yet! We’re always rehearsing and writing new songs and generally being arses.

What is your gear setup?
I grew up listening to the Beatles, so have spent my life trying to get the Paul McCartney bass tone, but I also love to experiment with the sound of my bass so often run it through loads of weird pedals. I use ashdown valve amps, and loads of fuzz pedals and even a phaser pedal to really fuck the sound up and try make it “my own”.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
I usually spend my music-less days getting angry at the news and reading about science and just about anything I come across. It definitely affects them music we write – we’ve written quite a few songs that are politically inclined and discuss current situations. There’s even an unreleased song called “Juno” that was inspired by the Juno space probe currently orbiting Jupiter – me and Harry (singer) thought it’d be an interesting thing to right about so we did it.

How would you describe your music genre?
Indie rock pop (slightly psychedelic) groove music that people can dance to, and sing along. Melody is hugely important so we always try and make things as catchy as possible.

Do you know any music theory?
I know the basics about chords, scales and harmonies. I can’t read music – none of us can – but it’s not made us any worse at music (we’re already terrible anyway).

What are your plans for the future?
Well, we’re releasing our next single soon (who knows when????) and we’ll be back on tour in the autumn. Charlie also hopes to perfect his skating tricks.

How did you get into music?
We were grown in a Petri dish for sole purpose of saving guitar music and then the world. Did you not know?

What are you listening to at the moment?
We’re really into PONDs brand new album “The Weather” they have a cool experimental, psychedelic sound and a really interesting songwriting style that were proper getting into. Charlie (drummer) is listening to bits of hip hop, especially a guy called MF Doom. We’re always listening to new music from all genres and it really helps craft our own sound and style. Ryan (guitarist) is listening to an American punk band called Meatwave.

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

The Beatles will always be at the top. For me I’m always channeling Beatles in my songwriting, often subconsciously – genius. Oasis and the whole Britpop scene had a profound effect on all of us, in the way they broke through with catchy guitar pop songs and they’re reckless attitude – they really affected us growing up. In the past few years Me and the rest of the band have been hugely into an Australian psych pop band called Tame Impala – they opened our minds to new styles of production and songwriting and have some amazing songs! We listen to so much music though we can’t pick a top 5.

When and were are you playing next?
Next gig is Truck Festival on 22nd July, then a big London show on 24th with our pals In Sulks.
