What is your name and role within the band?
Alex Bleeker and I’m the bass player
Where are you based?
Originally we are all from New Jersey, but we now all live in different places in the US.
How would you describe your music genre?
Ummm… how would you describe our music genre? Just curious, how much of our music have you listened to?
We were trying to mix it up in the studio with the new album.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
We all got together for a few weeks in the studio, we just hang, and jammed and wrote the music together.
What are you working on right now?
We’re currently on tour- driving- on our way to Chicago for our show tomorrow night. Tonight, we’re thinking of going to the movies, people want to see Guardians of the Galaxy – but I think there’s a more worthwhile movie to see – maybe something more intellectually stimulating. I mean, Guardians of the Galaxy could be cool, is it out in Australia yet? No, at the moment everyone here is going crazy for Get Out. Ohhh Get out is awesome, that’s one of my favourite movies I’ve seen in the cinema in a long time I wish I could see it again
Do you know any music theory?
No, well, very very basic stuff, but I am ear trained – I read music.
What are you listening to at the moment?
A lot of different stuff – this question always puts me on the spot and I don’t know what to say.
But there’s this Ethiopian organist named Hailu Mergia, I really like his music a lot – that’s our recent discovery and I got really into that.
Who are your top 3 influences and icons
1. Megadeth
2. Billy Joel – first concert I ever saw.
3. The grateful dead
Oh you’re from Adelaide? Do you know that song Adelaide by Paul Kelly? I’m a big fan of Paul Kelly, you should include that in my icons – you can swap out Billy Joel.
What are your plans for the future?
We’re going to take a little break after this tour and then we’re going to make more music. I have started surfing pretty recently, so I’m real excited to come to Australia for that reason – I hear you guys have some of the best waves in the world, Byron Bay right?
Any last words?
I guess if anybody’s reading this and would like to show me a really good spot to go long boarding in Australia, I would totally welcome that.
