Oliver Tank

What is your name and how would you describe what you do?

My name is Oliver Tank and I make chilled out electronic music.

How did you start?

I started learning production at Uni and just went from there. I’ve been involved in music my whole life though.

Where are you based?

Sydney, Australia.

Please give an example of your music writing / producing process?

I usually start by finding or creating some cool unique sounds, then I build chords around that. Try and make a few nice loops that I can keep listening to without getting bored. Then I make a few different sections based off the loop and just go from there.

What are you working on right now?

I’ve been working on a bunch of new tracks. They are a little more upbeat than my previous work, I’m not sure what I’ll do with them yet. Likely it will be for a new EP later this year.

What is your gear setup?

For live I play with a stand alone sampler, drum pad, kaoss pad for effects and guitar. For recording/production it’s Ableton, a variety of plugins, record player for sampling, and a bunch of hardware for effects.

What do you like to do outside of music / producing and does it affect your creative process?

I have a few odd jobs here and there. Music is what I do most of the time though. I like to play ball most days. It helps break up the day a bit. Gives me some release physically and gets me out from behind my computer .
