Mr. G

Tour Dates

Friday 1st DecemberBrown Alley, Melbourne
Saturday 2nd December: Subsonic Music Festival, Sydney

Mr. G has been in the game longer than some of his fans have been breathing. After over twenty years of crushing the scene, his status has firmly been set to ‘legendary’ with undeniable production skills and a live set for the ages. Previously known for being one half of ‘The Advent’, Mr. G went on to pursue his own ventures with a string of critically acclaimed albums left in his wake. ‘Still Here’ dropped in 2010 which went on to receive plenty of love from Resident Advisor and Mixmag, scoring 4/5 stars from both. It was then followed by ‘State Of Flux’ in 2012, 2014’s ‘Personal Momentz’, 2015’s ‘Night On The Town’ and ‘A Good Place…?’ which was released last year on his own imprint Pheonix G.

Keeping the new music flowing, Mr. G has also pumped out numerous EPs over the course of the past two years. His latest release ‘Retro 1’ (also dropping on Pheonix G) sports three jamming house tracks, representing Mr. G’s dominance the only way he can.

The term ‘legend’ is often banded around willy nilly in the dance music realm, but Mr. G, aka Colin McBean, is one of the few who can rightfully lay claim to this accolade.

Having been in the game for around two decades now, Mr. G is widely considered to be one of the most under-rated artists about – with only true music fans appreciating his vast contribution to dance music.

He was initially part of the KCC DJ trio playing at the now legendary Confusion parties and subsequently started recording as one half of The Advent, producing many ground-breaking releases/remixes and albums, and touring the world with their intense, relentless style of techno. In 1999 Colin decided to go his own way and founded the Phoenix G label in order to create his unique brand of analogue bass-heavy electronic tech-funk, which immediately attracted props from his peers and the music press alike.

Having achieved great acclaim for releases on other labels such as DefectedDuty FreeThe End andSkint/Loaded, and remixing a wide range of artists – overground from chart-topping Roger Sanchez to MsKittin, and underground from Xpress II to Josh Wink and Ben Sims – he also received much attention for his releases/remixes out of Detroit on Moods ‘n’ Grooves.

In 2006, Rekids was proud to bring Mr. G onto the team. In the subsequent 3 years, he released ‘E.C.G.’ed‘, ‘U Askin‘?’ and ‘Makes No Sense‘ – featuring remixes from Radio Slave and Marcel Dettmann. He also remixed Kenny Hawkes & David Parr‘s single ‘Gemini‘ for us in 2007. In 2010 we saw the release of his long-awaited debut LP ‘Still Here (Get On Down)‘, much to the delight of fans and peers alike. The album received unanimous praise across the globe, Resident Advisor and Mixmag both giving it a solid 4/5. Following the album’s release, Colin took it on the road with the Rekids world tour – his sets went down a treat, tantalising crowds with his trademark blend of analogue driven grooves and luscious, soulful soundscapes.

In 2017, we envisage Colin‘s live sets becoming legendary, along with a string of fresh material and remixes in the pipeline.
