Where are you currently based?
I am currently based in Toronto, but I am originally from Vancouver, B.C.
How did you first start playing music?
I grew up in a very music-oriented environment. Both of my parents are really into music and creativity. My mom writes novels and poetry and my dad plays in a hobby band. My earliest memories of music were singing with him when I was a little baby. I also grew up playing piano and dancing so I was always surrounded by music! I think I started taking lessons when I was three.
What’s been happening recently?
I’m at school right now trying to get my BFA Degree in Music, while also trying to be a superstar ahahah. Hannah Montana IRL, I guess?
Your new single ‘Dior’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
This song is heavily influenced by the glittery sounds of early 2000’s R&B and Pop. It’s definitely more upbeat than most of my songs, but it’ll be a fun one to perform.
Where and when did you record/produce/master?
We wrote, recorded, and produced the song in May of 2021 and completed the whole project in Vancouver.
How did you approach the recording process?
Parker, Louise, and I approached this song in a super relaxed manner, it was more about collaborating and having fun than anything else. I especially had fun with the ad-libs! We really wanted to make it campy
What does the single mean to you?
To me, this single represents a new era of Molly Annelle- a post Elevator Music time. The song feels more mature than some of my others and is much more dancey, which is something I never thought I’d be able to write.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Sabrina Claudio owns my heart, but lately I’ve been loving Tinashe, Summer Walker, and the Marias!
What do you like to do away from music?
I love being social with my friends, going out to fun dinners, having parties, going shopping and all that but I also LOVEEE my alone time and all things self care. I do a lot of exercise, meditation, and I recently got into journaling.
What’s planned for the remainder of 2021 going into 2022?
For the remaining months of 2021 I’m slowing down on releases, only because I have some very exciting projects coming up in the new year!
Favourite food and place to hangout?
My favorite food is mac and cheese, or pasta of any kind, and since moving to Toronto I love walking through Kensington Market. But the West Coast girl in me says the best place to hang out is the beach 100%!
