What is your name and role within Mancerow?
We are Maxime and Romain. We are both Dj’s and producers in the project we called « Mancerow »
How did you start?
We met 2 years ago while partying. We started to play for fun at home, some friends were with us very often and at some point they told us that we should try to do something serious about it. So we decided to create our duo, we found the name, and we never stoped working on it since then.
Where are you based?
Paris, France.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
Romain : I’m usually the first to work on a track. I prepare some loops, with just one Kick drum, I create then a bassline, then the chords, and I add one or two ideas for the drums on it.
Maxime : after all that I listen to that loop, then, I create all the drums elements, to add a bouncy rhythm on the track. At this point we have the final loop as I like to call it. If everything works, I start editing the track, putting all the parts together, then we both listen to the track, and finally we work together to see if some parts has to go off the tracks and which parts are going to stay in it.
What are you working on right now?
We work on several things, things that we don’t really want to talk about. Because we don’t want to bring bad luck on us.
What is your gear setup?
Maxime : For our gigs, we like to play on the CDJ’s but at home, we like to spin the vinyls.
Romain : For the productions we use Logic Pro X with a whole lot of plug-ins and some hardware like Komplete Kontrol or the UC-33.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
We like sports, we like to get together with our friends, watch soccer games, and play FIFA of course. .
To be honest there’s not much we do outside of music because when we’re not working on our sound, we usually listen to everything that’s being released. We even go to some events like art exhibition to find some inspirations. We always do things that will help us through our work.
How would you describe your music genre?
We don’t like to put a label on it. It’s pretty much all about the groove, could be house, could be micro-house, could more of a techno sound, as long as it’s groovy, we like it.
Do you know any music theory?
Romain : I learned music theory for three years and I played the guitar for about 10 years.
Maxime : I never learned to play any instruments, I come from a family of musicians, they taught me the basics.
What are your plans for the future?
To be able to throw our good vibe on people, that’s the plan.
How did you get into music?
Romain : My father is a music addict and my mother always liked to dance so, they gave me the virus.
Maxime : As I said, I come from a family of musicians, so they gave me the love for the music and the sensitivity for it.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Romain : Cinthie – Back to Garage (Original mix), this track defines everything I like on a house record, the groove, the chords etc.
Maxime : Shonky – The Minneapolis Touch (Original Mix) an old Shonky record released on Apollonia music 6 or 7 years ago, I love this tune, never gets old.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
Maxime : Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Doors, Oasis, Oliver Cheatham, Nirvana.
Romain : Laurent Garnier, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Pink Floyd.
When are you playing next?
