Listen to ‘Ego Death’, the revered-soaked rock gem from Brisbane’s Chakra Efendi

Listen to 'Ego Death', the new track from Chakra Efendi, taken from Dinosaur City Records Mixtape #4, which is due out on October 18. Described by Deafen County as "three-minutes of glittering guitars vulnerable vocals and pure bliss", it's out today on all streaming services. Listen now on Spotify, Bandcamp, Soundcloud and everywhere else. 19-year-old Chakra Efendi has grown from a humble bedroom project to a formidable live act with full band in tow, solidifying their place in the scene over the last year, sharing stages with the likes of Mossy, Gum and The Ocean Party, plus performing their debut official BIGSOUND showcases last month. 'Ego Death', was recorded in 2017 as a university assignment when Chakra was studying at Griffith's Queensland Conservatorium. "My course was based on the Gold Coast, but I was pretty much squatting in a Brisbane share house and couch surfing with no licence, car or money, so I rarely attended. I led a pretty hedonistic lifestyle, so when I did attend I was either way too hungover to pay attention or way too sleep-deprived to stay awake in lectures. The song is a reflection of the headspace my friends and I were in at the time. 17, fresh out of high school and dabbling in a world we knew nothing of, over-indulging in life's sensory pleasures with the cost of it being our mental, physical and spiritual health." Chakra says. "It was a super weird time, but it's good to reminisce and see how much I've grown – this song is a nice reminder." Featuring former classmate Ben Bastich on piano, the song demonstrates Chakra's ability to meld teen anguish with a lo-fi bedroom pop take on 90s garage rock. 'Ego Death' is the second single from Dinosaur City Records #4, a 24-track compilation stacked with brand new tracks from Australia's best DIY musicians including Poison Abbey, No Sister, No Local, Premium Fantasy, e4444e, Repo Man and many more.  View the full mixtape tracklisting below, and get tickets to the launch party on October 18 at Marrickville Golf Club. 1.
