Today Toronto rapper Lil Berete is back with a new single ‘Chase Cash’ featuring young London singer/rapper Deno. In Berete’s latest single you can hear his suffering. After being banned from filming videos in his home estate in Regent Park around the time the area had experienced a string of violence that resulted in Berete losing some close friends, he left his home to seek solace and peace of mind. He headed to London, where he met the young artist Deno and after a few studio sessions the two hit it off – the result is this poignant new single that debuted today with a new music video that was shot in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia by Mornix and stars the two young rappers.
With over 14 million global streams to date on his debut mixtape Icebreaker, it’s no wonder why FADER, XXL, Complex and Passion Of Weiss has all heralded Lil Berete as Toronto’s most important new artist on the scene. With a distinctive voice, raw talent and a dynamic flow, Lil Berete’s duality of confidence and vulnerability is captivating.
After launching his career with Icebreaker, a mixtape mainly about growing up in Regent Park, his next mixtape (expected to drop this spring) will see a more international, mature side of Berete as the playfulness of his youth has recently been colored with the more serious issues he’s been up against as of recent.
