Already capturing serious attention with tracks “West”, “View Looks So Good” and “Sweet Days”, today Lakyn releases brand new EP, & Pains.
The EP will feature his current singles as well as three new tracks, “Slumdog”, “First Impressions” and “Soldier”.
On & Pains, Lakyn fuses his rock-music upbringing with sounds inspired by hip-hop titans Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and the eclectic, game-changing R’n’B of Frank Ocean. There’s crunchy guitar paired with honeyed, R’n’B vocals (“View Looks So Good”), near-perfect falsettos (“Slumdog”) and infectious pop melodies (“First Impressions” and “Sweet Days”).
Lakyn’s music has already clocked 11 million streams across all platforms. The dreamy, “View Looks So Good” (produced by Kuren), the beat driven “West” (produced by Nic Martin) and current single “Sweet Days” (produced by Dann Hume) – debuted to a mountain of praise from the likes of triple j, The Music and Beat Magazine, with Happy writing that the singles showed “an artist that was at the top of his game”. Now & Painshas received 4/5 stars from The AU Review, stating & Pains “causes the listener to be enraptured by Lakyn’s sound throughout six delicately cultivated tracks.”
On & Pains, Lakyn explores the duality of his personality, the curious, creative persona with colourful visuals and his comical Instagram presence set against the story of inner turmoil and emotional growth. ‘With these six songs I wanted to be brutally honest, acknowledging that in my past, life was painful. I’m super happy and enjoying life now but I can’t forget that I used to carry around some heavy weight that affected myself and the people closest to me.”
While he tackles some difficult issues in his music, he also has a mischievous streak. Often seen around Melbourne with his bleached blonde hair, faux fur coat and with his pet bird named Biggie Smalls.
Lakyn will take his ‘& Pains’ Tour to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane kicking off September 27th in Sydney with supports Nardean, Blaq Carrie and Charlie Threadscoming along for the ride. As well as his Australian shows, Lakyn will be returning home to New Zealand for his first ever headline show performing at Auckland’s Whammy Bar this November.
