What is your name and role within Klangkarussell?
My name is Tobias Rieser and I am one half of DJ / producer duo Klangkarussell.
How did you start?
Both Adrian and I grew up in families where music played a big role, so we were surrounded by it from a pretty young age but we only stared doing music together 5 years ago.
Where are you based?
Adrian lives in Berlin, Germany and I live in Salzburg and Vienna in Austria.
Please give an example of your music writing process?
There are many different approaches for us to make music, sometimes we meet in the studio in London or Berlin, sometimes we do it individually at home and send stuff back and forth.
We regularly work with a London based producer and DJ called Tom Neville (aka Ten Ven), it’s been great to have him in the process of making the new record.
What are you working on right now?
We’re working on the last touches of our second album. We’ve already released a couple of tracks from it, „Hey Maria“ last year and darker club tracks „Time“ and „Circuits“ just days ago. It’s exciting to put out new music, stuff we’ve been working on for ages.
What is your gear setup?
We have a straight forward DJ set up where we like to play dark techno and house beats but we also have a full live band which is pretty exciting. We haven’t done this in a while but are planning to bring them back.
What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?
Everything you do might affect your music, it’s difficult to say what ecxactly but music you listen to is definitely a big influence. I realize this is not really outside of music… 😉
How would you describe your music genre?
I actually don’t know that many genres, I find them confusing. It’s nothing I spent a lot of time thinking about.
Do you know any music theory?
Both of us know a bit music theory but we’re really more the practical kind.
What are your plans for the future?
We’ll keep firing out new music this year, hopefully the album will be released this year too. We have quite a few DJ gigs lined up in Europe but are planning on playing some other continents again very soon.
How did you get into music?
Adrian started making drum and bass music when he was 14 and I used to play the trombone for 7 years. As I mentioned before we both grew up in musical families so it was kind of always around us.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Kraftwerk on vinyl.
Who are your top 5 influences and icons?
This is really hard to say, we both listen to lots of different kinds of music, in every genre there are so many good artist which have influenced us in a way, it’d be unfair just to name a few…
