Joris Voorn returns to his Dark Science project onProphecy after three years off

Joris Voorn steps back into this Dark Science guise this month after a lengthy hiatus, and it’s been well worth the wait. His rarely used moniker first appeared in 2004 with The Real Issue, and it has maintained a cult status ever since.

Prophecy sees Joris indulge his euphoric side, riding a tight beat with a plump melodic bassline that’s teased into action through a bit of bitcrushing as atmospheric pads wash over the background. Anthemic string stabs play quietly as the effervescent lead chords begin to filter up. A heavenly, tremelo vox synth provides the final icing on the cake, with all the elements uniting in glorious technicolour when the chords are finally filtered up into all their glory. The cheerful crescendos and feel-good vibe of this glorious track have been met with huge reactions at Joris’ gigs over the last few months, certifying it as a bit of a monster.

Josh Butler provides a thumping remix, all low-slung guttural bass, sharp percussion, techy stabs and mind-bending FX. It’s deep, with subtle builds and slow-burning energy that makes it a perfect set-builder. File somewhere in between deep and tech house.

This month saw Joris tour Mexico and the US, and after a short break he’s bringing his Spectrum concept back to his home town of Tilburg in the Netherlands for what’s sure to be a very special and emotional night. After gigs in Belgium and Spain and at London’s incredible Printworks, he’ll finish the year in style by rocking Awakenings NYE at the legendary Gashouder in Amsterdam.
