JIM LAWRIE Shares video for ‘Lost On Earth’ Announces Sydney album launch Melbourne launch this Friday
PRAISE FOR SLACKER OF THE YEAR
“He should be considered one of this decade’s finest songwriters.” – The Music ★★★★
“country music in crisis mode; part Pikelet, part Soundgarden. And it’s a new highpoint for Lawrie.”– The Herald Sun ★★★★
“The sumptuous melodies that gave his blues a soaring lightness on previous record Eons are anchored here by an omnipresent gloom. Slacker Of The Year is gut-wrenching. No comparisons necessary.” – STACK
Melbourne’s Jim Lawrie has shared a new video for his track ‘Lost on Earth’, premiering over at The AU Review. ‘Lost on Earth’ is Jim’s rip-roaring third single to come from his new album Slacker of the Yearout now via Barely Dressed Records / Remote Control Records.
‘Lost on Earth’, a fan-favourite from the album, perfectly captures the magic of unearthing something new and exciting in someone else.
As Jim explains;
“The majority of this planet is accounted for by Google maps. This song is about the fact that, even when every single inch of this earth is discovered, known, and documented, there will still be parts within each of us that can be explored. It is a quest to find that one place within another person that is undiscovered, that consumes and becomes your world to get lost in. ”
Jim has teamed up again with filmmaker James Ruse to create the clip. It centers around two old souls checking into a seedy motel to have a bit of fun. According to Jim “This, after all, is a song about finding another human being in this world who enjoys the same sort of silly stuff as you to spend your days doing. This is feel-good stuff”.
Recorded and mixed by Callum John Barter at Newmarket Studios, Slacker of the Year is Jim’s most ambitious work yet. It is a culmination of years of creative introspection; his own gloriously crafted interpretation of classic rock and folk.
As always, Lawrie’s vocal purity is the focus on Slacker of the Year, but this time the songs take flight with a new sophistication. Melodic, sincere and warm, this album moves his sound onwards and upwards to beautiful, widescreen heights.
Jim will be launching Slacker of the Year with shows in Melbourne and Sydney. Details below and tickets on sale now.
