Where are you currently based?
Amsterdam, the Netherlands
How did you first start playing music?
Our next door neighbors had a piano, whenever we would visit I would sneak over to the keys to see what it was about. I was about 3/4 years old and was just magnetized to it.
What’s been happening recently?
Been having fun in the studio creating the second album. Have been playing a bunch of great live shows and also, I’m gonna be a dad!
Your latest single ‘Melancholy Rain’ is out now, what influenced the sound and songwriting?
Crowded house for sure. That song the weather, man I love that tune. But also influenced by America (the band)/Crosby stills Nash and young/and run dmc
How did you go about writing Melancholy Rain?
I wrote melancholy rain in a barn turned to studio in Germany with my friends. It started with me referencing the weather by crowded house. I started to play chords on the guitar and started singing and it evolved into from there. It was first a song about California, but then it didn’t work really, so I ended up erasing all melody and lyrics and starting over but keeping the same chords. And out came melancholy rain.
What does this single mean to you?
It connects me to some sweet memories of my past. Let’s me daydream there for a few minutes.
Also it’s the first song on the project where I let my love for acoustic folk music shines through.
Where and when did you record/produce/master and who did you work with?
Small town in west Germany called Lengenfeld. Worked with my friends Chris, Adam and Rich on it. Two Americans a German and a Dutch guy walk into a barn.. (sounds like the beginning of a bad joke right?)
How did you approach the recording process?
We kind of record as we go. If somebody plays something or adds a cool idea in the room that gets us excited we put it in immediately. And keep the vibe building and going
Who are you listening to at the moment?
Oh man I’m currently listening to all my own new tunes lol. But next to that I’ve been getting inspired by Baird, Olivia Dean, little simz, Fred again
What do you like to do away from music?
I’m rarely away from music, but when I am I’m spending time with friends, family or traveling to get some rest and inspiration. Love reading books and perfecting the craft of sandwich making.
What’s planned for 2023?
New songs to release. A new album. And playing festivals and shows. Can’t wait!
Favourite food and place to hangout?
Favorite is a scale but there’s a place around the corner from my house called the Cottage. They serve up the best English breakfast. Love that place. Has a homey cosy feeling to it. In the end we just want a good home cooked meal don’t we.
