Where are you currently based?
I’m based in Mullumbimby NSW and Esther is in Melbourne.
What’s been happening recently?
We’ve been finishing off our next ep, sending it around to labels and doing gigs with our other bands @theversaceboys @themilkshakesmusic @dont_thank_me_spank_me and @tektekensemble
How do you describe your sound?
Cinematic pop that makes you feel good and want to move.
Your 3rd EP is coming out this year, please tell us what we can expect:
You can expect an overall similar vibe of sibling in-jokes, light-heartedness, strings and a smidge more angst than the last few EPs.
What or who influenced the sound of the EP?
We were much more experimental with Synths, beats and composition on this EP, there are some tracks that draw on Jobim, Timberland, Nick Drake and Still woozy.
How did you go about the writing process?
Normally we sit down together, Esther writes the guitar chords and I manipulate them a bit and try toplining things over it until we hit the spots that both move us the same way. Sometimes one of us has an idea and it gets built upon, and sometimes we come up with a great idea when we’re just hanging out and then get it out super quickly.
You’ve just supported ‘Crooked Colours’ at Brisbane’s ‘The Brightside’ for ‘Smirnoff Origins’, how did this come about and how has the experience been so far?
It was incredible, the stage and crowd were huge, Crooked Colours were epic, the hotel was amazing with a sauna, and the food and drinks were dreamy. We felt like superstars and were beautifully looked after by the Smirnoff team.
Will submitted our most streamed track “Day Drinking” and we randomly got a message back saying we were finalists. We didn’t hold our breath as we knew there must have been thousands of entries and completely freaked out when we found out that we had actually won.
How was the show?!
It was actually our first time playing with our man on Keys Nic Campbell and having keys filling up the sound and glueing it together was incredible. The crowd were amazing, we got an encore even though we were over time and the sound and vibe was luscious.
So many mates and family members made it, it was a very special show for us, and we are still buzzing!
What’s planned for 2023?
2023 looks like we’ll be releasing our next EP and hopefully getting on some festival lineups, doing a Victorian and NSWalian tour and writing more songs at Mum’s house, Melbs and at my studio in Mullum.
Who are you listening to at the moment?
I’m obsessed with Smino, Sir, Cobrah, Alfalfa and Remi Wolf.
Favourite food and place to hangout?
Favourite food – Anything from Bakers Daughter in Mullum, fave place to hang out, Torakina Beach with my love Gabrielle and little man Frankie.
