EYRST has unveiled the final installment of their Rare Treat remix series…
Rare Treat is an EP released by EYRST trio Myke Bogan, Neill Von Tally, and The Last Artful, Dodgr, three of the most influential people in the Portland hip hop scene. The EP came about spontaneously as Dodgr sat in on a Myke recording session. Something clicked and 36 hours later the EP was complete. Since releasing all three artists have been very busy. The Last Artful, Dodgr and Neill Von Tally released their album Bone Music to national acclaim, including a 7.2 rating from Pitchfork. Myke’s new album will be dropping in August. All three artists are playing festivals this summer, including appearances at Upstream, What The Festival?, Music Fest NW, to name a few.
The remix series involved one remix of each track from the EP. Producers with four very different sounds were tapped for the project. So far remixes by Portland producer Eastghost, Florida/Georgia artist/producer Chester Watson, and legendary LA producer Exile have dropped. The final installment is by London’s Emmavie, who not only remixed the track but added some of her own backup vocals.
There is no telling if Myke Bogan, Neill Von Tally, and The Last Artful, Dodgr will reunite down the line for another Rare Treat project, but one thing is for sure, if they do it will be a special treat.
Pitchfork on the Last Artful, Dodgr: “In an era where most rappers appeal to their listeners’ aspirations, Dodgr aims instead for reliability, zooming in on harsh realities rather than well-heeled fantasies. It’s an unusually grounded mindset for a promising young rapper, one that will likely serve her well as her profile rises.”
Pigeons and Planes on Myke Bogan: “Portland is popping right now, with the likes of Aminé and The Last Artful, Dodgr getting national attention. Those digging a little deeper will soon find there’s a lot more talent in the Pacific Northwest, including Myke Bogan.”
