Melbourne singer, song-writer and rapper Dylan Joel has returned with his brand new single, Run to the River and today unleashes the accompanying video for it, shot in the US.

Dylan comments “We shot the video in a desert one hour outside of San Diego, California in a town called Ocotillo. The only things in the town of Ocotillo were a gas station, a saloon and a man who turns recycled junk in to UFO’s…as you do.”

“The story of the song was inspired by the idea of flipping a blues song. Hence the theme of the ‘river’ being something holy or life giving and the reference of a devil whispering. The theme came from some of the typical struggles we face as a society and the importance of questioning what things help us escape them.”

Run to the River is the first taste of new Dylan Joel music for over 2 years. Dylan entered the public psyche in 2015 with his debut release, Authentic Lemonade. Triple J made it their Feature Album of the Week, and Dylan’s crossover capabilities and extrovert stage presence drew comparisons to Chance the Rapper and Ed Sheeran (depending on which way the live set was loaded). With his new music, he’s intent on defying labels.

Dylan spent the majority of 2017 writing and recording his forthcoming music in both Australia and the US.

It’s been incredibly liberating,” he says “….in the past there was a fear that held me back from being completely creative and innovative. This time I decided to just make something that connects with people.”

Three producers came on board to execute the final vision for the new materil: Cam Bluff (Amy Shark, Hilltop Hoods), with whom Dylan co-produced Authentic Lemonade; Dylan’s housemate and multi-instrumentalist, Pattyboomba; and Jim Alxndr. They combined their strengths to create a new set that’s all killer.
