What is your name and role within Dorian Paic ?

I am Dorian Paic. 🙂

How did you start?

I started in 1992 by working in a record shop called „Air Embargo“ located in the Dorian Gray club at Frankfurt, Main International Airport.

Where are you based?

Right now I am based in Berlin since 3 years and before I was living most of my life in Frankfurt, Main where I was also born and where I grew up as well.

Please give an example of your music writing process?

Usually I start playing around with samples or I start by making a beat plus baseline and from there I develop the rest.

What are you working on right now?

As for sequencing I am using Ableton Live as I find it very intuitive and simple to use.

What is your gear setup?

Here at home I don’t have a big set up to be honest. 2 Drum machines, 1 synth, a midi keyboard and some speakers plus a Moto 128 Midi Express in case I want to use more hardware. Thats pretty much it.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

Outside of music I like good food a lot. I would not consider myself a foodie but I like finding and trying out new restaurants. Besides that I love watching all types of movies and sometimes I am visiting exhibitions or concerts here in Berlin. I think that it is pretty important to do something outside from what you are doing everyday because it is refreshing your senses and can also be inspiring.

How would you describe your music genre?

Good Music ! 🙂 If you want some more detailed description I would say that I am playing a mix between House and Techno in different styles, depending on the venue, hour and size of the party where I am playing.

Do you know any music theory?

I would like to use a quote here by Aldous Huxley : „After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music“ That pretty much sums up my definition of a so called „Music Theory“

What are your plans for the future?

Continuing what I do as long as possible, Deejaying, running my label and producing music when I find time for doing it.

How did you get into music?

I started collecting records at a very early age. Think that I got my first record when I was around 8 or 9 years old. It was an album by the band „Kiss“ and from that moment on I was collecting records all my life until this very moment.

What are you listening to at the moment?

Non Electronic Music my latest discoveries have been the album „Na“ by the artist Zimoun from from Switzerland that is playing together with other very well know artists and also the album „Good bye to language“ by Daniel Lanois and Rocco Delucca.

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

Well Deejays that have influenced me for sure over the last 25 years have been : Sven Väth, Ricardo Villalobos, Dimitri Kneppers from Amsterdam and Heiko M/S/O and Ata with their Wild Pitch Club in Frankfurt. Those were the deejays that I listened to a lot during my youth and also a bit later and those are the only ones more or less until today that left remaining impressions and memories in my mind.

When are you playing next?

I am playing this sunday at Ricardo Villalobos FRRC Event in Barcelona on the last day from the Off Sonar week.
