What is your name and role within DJ QU?

Qu is the name everyone calls me by. its part of my last name Quezada. there’s no role as thats been my everyday name for ages before joining the music scene.

How did you start?

I started as a Dancer then a Dj which led to being a producer. Was a natural progression in my opinion.

Where are you based?

I am based in New Jersey U.S. born and raised there.

Please give an example of your music writing process?

I have two processes that I normally use since day one when it comes to music writing. I’ll either sit down and work on music  til I come up with something interesting or i’ll be inspired due to something I experienced which in turn will make me race to the studio to capture the feeling. Simple but effective for me both methods.

What are you working on right now?

At the moment I am finishing some music so that I can start releasing a series of eps in the months to come. Can’t give any release titles just yet but have some things brewing.

What is your gear setup?

Currently I’ve only been using my Yamaha Motiff keyboard along with propeller head Reason software to work on music as the rest of my gear has been stored away in boxes due to a renovation I’m about to do in my home studio. Will bring out the Mpc 5000 etc when the renovations are over.

What do you like to do outside of music and does it affect your music?

To be honest the last few years have been dedicated to touring as a DJ and working on music so haven’t had a lot of me time to do other things. I personally enjoy being wrapped up in music so it’s ok for now.

How would you describe your music genre?

Deep House.

Do you know any music theory?

Not really. hopefully some day I’ll get into that aspect as i know its useful but for now no real Music Theory knowledge.

What are your plans for the future?

My plans for the future is to continue touring and creating interesting musical projects that people can enjoy and appreciate. I want to keep contributing to the music scene as much as possible.

How did you get into music?

I would have to credit my family for getting me into music. As a young child my family would always have music playing around the house weather it was Latin music or another genre. Also fm radio was key as it led me to hear other styles that my family wasn’t into. I think thats probably how most people get into music and end up having a passion for it.

What are you listening to at the moment?

a lot of Madlib mixes actually.

Who are your top 5 influences and icons?

I don’t have a top five per say as it’s more than 5 but i can mention icons like Masters at Work, Blaze, Wu-Tang, Stevie Wonder & Theo Parrish to name a few.

When are you playing next?

Next up will be a DJ set at Expg dance studio in NY July 17th. that will be super hype.
