City Park release sleek new single ‘Symbolic Love’

'Effortlessly stylish' - Complex “Somewhere between Blood Orange and Majid Jordan” - Dummy Named after the incompatibility of a calm space within the hustle and bustle of an urban area, City Park return with new slow-jam ‘Symbolic Love’, providing a moment of serenity in our saturated world. Founded by alt-R&B producer Saux and Sjaak, City Park encapsulate the sounds of Amsterdam’s Vondelpark after dark, their effortless falsetto and stylish guitar licks reminiscent of Prince and Jai Paul. ‘Symbolic Love’ captures a tentative first date whilst breaking down “the special dynamics between two people getting to know each other”. Toying with the idea of platonic love and the impossibility of perfect relationships, lyrics like “all you have to do is prove / Climate change really bothers you” relate to the pressures we feel to impress those we’re attracted to. Having chosen Seoul artist Jiye Kim’s for their self-titled EP, the Amsterdam based duo is now working with the Germany based Tatjana Prenzel who has created bespoke artwork which “fits the feeling of our music – warm and minimalist. On top of that it feels like there’s always something going on outside the frame which really struck us.” By collaborating with independent artists to create pieces accompanying each track, City Park describe how for them it “offers new perspectives and places the music in a broader context too. There's a lot of parallels in emotion conveyed by colour in visual arts and sound in music, and we hope there's mutual inspiration in combining these.” Exploring the spatiality in their music, ‘Symbolic Love’ is the promise of much more to come from City Park’s trademark sound.
