Our Golden Friend are incredibly excited to announce the newest signing to their label and management family in the form of 21-year-old Melbourne based artist Chitra. A genre bending songwriter that, much like her creative influences Alabama Shakes and Angel Olsen, seamlessly weaves the blunt force of rock’n’roll with the candid story telling of country and soul.

Growing up amongst the rich music scene of the Bellarine Peninsula on the South Coast of Victoria,Chitra found herself fully immersed with sounds both local & global and quickly developed a passion for songwriting, which for her became a vital means of channeling emotion and experience.

Chitra is also incredibly excited to be supporting Tyne James Organ at The Workers Club inMelbourne this Friday night!

Stream ‘Better Than Before’

Chitra’s debut release on Our Golden Friend is the her stunning new single ‘Better Than Before‘, which is available on all digital service providers now, and is the first taste of her forthcoming EP set to be released in early 2019.

‘Better Than Before’ has received quite a bit of love via the triple j Unearthed platform after being added to triple j Unearthed Radio and has received glowing reviews, with 4 and 5 stars across the board:

“Hooo, this is special. I hope you enter every room with someone announcing your presence Game Of Thrones-style – Chitra; singer of songs, taker of breath, voice of purest silver.”
– Dave Ruby Howe (Unearthed Music Director)

“i first heard Chitra’s voice live and it was so stunning. Plus she’s such a great storyteller. Happy to say that this shows off both those great qualities.”
– Declan Byrne (Triple J ‘Home & Hosed’ Presenter)

“Totally hear that Julia Jacklin vibe in Chitra’s voice but, she is less of a dreamer and more of a worldly old soul. Still, SO MANY FEEL with this tune. OMG – it’s like a heart seeped in sorrow. There’s not light in the darkness but there is definitely beauty and wonder.”
– Nkechi Anele (Triple J ‘Roots ‘N’ All’ Presenter)
