Following the release of their sophomore EP NAMES in 2018, Melbourne indie rockers The Avenue have set their sights high for the New Year, announcing their third EP release in BODIES. From it, the band have given fans fresh insight into what can be expected, with the unveiling of new single ‘suburbs.cities.towns’ and new visuals for EP track, ‘Bourgeois Bitch’.

February and March will see The Avenue back on the road, set to illuminate stages on the east coast with a blistering new live show. Backed by a strong slew of local support acts, The Avenue are gearing up for another hectic year of new music, spurred by music made for bodies to move to.

Continuing to explore a catchy sonic playground, The Avenue have refined their songwriting skills off the back of their 2018 release, injecting more weight into some seriously lush and sprawling rock-pop soundscapes.

New single ‘suburbs.cities.towns’ – premiered with the AU Review – is delivered with slick melodies reminiscent of The 1975 and Catfish and The Bottlemen; vocalist Sam Thomascarries the lofty arrangements with ease and emotion. The combination of guitar, percussion and electronic elements is a seamless one on this track, one The Avenue delves further into throughout the BODIES EP.  “I wrote the demo for this song a long time ago in my parents shed, and we’ve been playing it live for pretty much as long as The Avenue has existed. I’m glad we could finally record it and put it on an EP where it makes sense. A simple hype song for the peak of the night.” The Avenue

Premiering with MusicFeeds this week, The Avenue’s BODIES EP is provocative, anthemic and rooted in delivering strong pop music with distinguished edge. The Avenue’s reputation as a band to watch has earned them praise from industry and fans alike, as their sounds have made their way up and down the Australian east coast successfully, both headlining and backing up some incredible talent including The Getaway PlanBritish India, Paper Lions and Columbus.

The dynamism the band exudes on stage has followed them successfully into the studio, with the band recording the six track EP as a natural progression of their creative process. If they’re not making a record, they’re writing and preparing for the next one. “This EP is our best achievement as a band so far. I feel like it’s a huge step forward in our evolution as musicians, and as a collective artistic identity.” The Avenue

Similarly, the moody and gritty edge captured on The Avenue’s third EP release has been captured well with their latest music video, this time for ‘Bourgeois Bitch’. Filmed by Tom Thomasand the band themselves, these visuals swirl and warp as the lyrics resound, ‘Until you find something better, I’ll be here waiting for you…’

With a 90’s grunge aesthetic threaded throughout, the music video (shared by Wickedd Childd) had Sam Thomas’ house transformed. “It’s got a very grungy vibe. Sort of reminds me of early Nirvana videos in a way, but it’s really cohesive and makes sense visually, in terms of what we’re doing as a band at the moment. It’s definitely the video that’s most representative of our style that we’ve done.” The Avenue

“Blurring the line between contemporary post-rock and synth-laden ’80s new wave, The Avenue are without a doubt a band to keep on your radar.”
Beat Magazine

“The band’s sophomore offering sees them meld ’80s-inspired synth pop with modern post-rock to create a unique sound that will take you from the dance floor to the mosh pit to relaxing poolside with your earphones cranked.”
Music Feeds

“Literally like the Australian version of The 1975. Very poppy, but maybe a tad more rocky.”
Triple J Unearthed, Claire Mooney

“Awash with dreamy synths, room for larger moments of anthemic indie and the ability to contrast great moments of upbeat pop with more downtempo balladry.”
The AU Review

Finessing their live shows into tight packages of frenetic energy over the last year, The Avenue have arrived at 2019 with more vigour, hungry at the opportunity to bring their new music to life. The BODIES EP marks a new chapter for the band, and an exciting step forward for one of Melbourne’s finest emerging names.
